For now the mass start events are good - I can just race what’s on the road and forget about cats 🙂
I join the 3R races for that reason. Pushes me hard to stay with the B's as long as possible before I drop and get picked up by the lead C group. Much better workout than just sitting in with the C's :okay:

I need to follow your diet too .... I'm stuck at 74kg :banghead: Can't see me getting anywhere near B numbers unless I can get well below 70kg

Can't be 100% sure they all are, but every one I join seems to be. I'm quite fond of the London flatter courses as i have a chance to hang on to the lead A/B group  The starts are set up so each cat is in their own pen, but all pens are visible and start at the same time. Means you have to push big at the start to get away from your pen riders across to the A/B riders but I usually manage it OK.

There is a 15:05 Innsbruck flat race latter of this type. This is the race I'd be targeting as I know I could hang to the front group as far as the LegSnapper then hopefully grab a B group over the top and get a nice draft on that lap. :okay:

Zwift Racing League | WTRL - RACE 1
With some exceptionally high numbers of teams across Europe entering, races 1 and 2 in both A and B divisions in the EMEA leagues will now determine what division your team is allocated to from Race 3. More details below in the dark box.

Dear Brendan,
We are almost there! Race 1 promises to be a thriller with an estimated 5,500 Zwifters taking to Big Foot Hills in an epic 50km (or 36km if you are a C or a D division team) race featuring 2 or 3 QOM / KOM segments where your team could pick up 5,4,3,2 & 1 bonus Individual Score points at each one.

Check out Zwift Insiders Course Recon for full details of this epic route that takes in a vast proportion of Watopia. The C & D divisions will be finishing at the top of the Volcano KOM while the Premier, A and B divisions will finish at the top of Titans Grove Reverse KOM.

Registration will freeze at 7AM UTC SUNDAY OCTOBER 11th 2020
(0:00am Los Angeles, 1am Calgary, 3am New York, 8am London, 9am Central Europe, 6pm Sydney

Zwift Racing League in partnership with WTRL
Week 1 - Race 1 - Season 1
The following applies to COMMUNITY DIVISIONS ONLY IN THE EMEA EAST & WEST MENS LEAGUES ONLY (AT THIS TIME)

With over 800 teams in 10 leagues, it may feel crowded when you think about how that could play out. It would be impossible for us to rank all the teams based on a list of names and it is important to build fun but competitive divisions. WTRL will be taking time on Sunday, 11th October to work through the registered teams and work out an arrangement of 'pools' or 'heats'. This will not affect every Division in all leagues - just the more heavily populated ones. Our plan is to look at Divisions where there are more than 20 teams and look to arrange those teams into multiple events. There is a bit to take in but essentially:
  1. A & B EMEA West and East will be allocated to a pool at random
  2. Average TEAM times plus your TTT time will be added together to rank teams.
  3. Top teams go to Upper Divisions from each pool, Middle teams go to Middle divisions, lower teams go to Lower divisions.
  4. Leagues are likely to be parallel - see graphic.

To explain this a bit more clearly, there are currently 145 B Division Teams signed up in the EMEA West League.
  • If all 145 teams went into the same single event, that would be around 850 riders in the B pen! Simply too many riders and the later you arrived at the pen, the further back in the pile you would be!
  • WTRL will randomly divide the teams into approximately 5 or 6) sub divisions initially (based on current numbers). This should give a peloton of approximately 100 - 150 racers.
  • Each sub division will be in its own pen or event (it may not be the B pen for all teams - remember pens are letters not categories)
  • Racer Sign-on links will be available to both Team Managers and Team Captains via the Team Dashboard and we will also email them to the Captains. If you have multiple teams, please be careful not to jumble these up. You would not want your team in the wrong event or pen or even worse split between 2 or 3 events or pens.
  • It is your responsibility as a Captain or Manager to police the use of team tags. WTRL is unable to guess which ZRL team you are in and untagged riders will receive 0 points. There will be a facility available to check your teams tags are being recognized by our data system.
  • Races will take place in the usual way - don't forget the Bonus points on offer - they are all first across the line!
  • Once the races are complete, we will take the times of all correctly tagged riders in each team, add them together and average them out. Your teams average time will be used to rank you on Race 1.
  • Before you think about not finishing racers to help your teams time, there is a penalty system in place for this and those riders points for finishing will make a difference once the leagues start proper.
  • This averaged team time will be added to your Team Time Trial time in week 2.
  • This will allow us to have extremely competitive divisions at several levels within each of the familiar ZwiftPower categories across a few divisions.
  • Wondering what happened to the points? these will still be in operation to ensure you arrive in Week 3 with the correct allocation of points. More on this in a later email.

Advantages:
  • Parallel leagues resulting in playoffs at end of season for promotion if a single Division exists above fed by 2 Divisions below.
  • Leagues should be balanced and extremely competitive.
  • Plenty of random mixing at several stages.
  • Teams have judged on both disciplines (scratch and TTT).
  • Should also encourage teams to be balanced and work together.
  • Field size should be no more than 25 this way based on current numbers.

Upshot of brendans long email fromWTRL is that For B teams, there are over 140 teams in the Europe division B, so to make it manageable the first 2 races will determine which tier of division B we are in. The average time is taken in both race 1 and race 2 To give the team a total time. Points won’t matter for tier selection but they will carry forward into the remaining races.
if a rider is doing badly and drops out then the team will be penalised - so there is incentive for all of us to keep going as fast as possible to the finish.

Am I reading it correctly that there will be some sort of race off at the end of the season for promotion?

Not sure if I've missed this but what time does next Tuesdays Zwift League race start, I can't see it on the Companion app... 🤔
Sorry mate missed this, but as Alan has said i will post on the #68 page the link when received :okay:

Am I being over-cynical in thinking some teams are going to hold back somewhat in the first two qualifying rounds in order to be placed in a lower division where they'll then be more competitive? 🤔

Oh I'm not suggesting we do that. I race to keep fit, not to play silly games like that (I just wouldn't put it past some teams to try that trick!)
Yep, was one of my first thoughts when I saw the leagues configuration too. Not that they will gain anything from doing it as they will just get promoted the first season!

As @IrishAl says .... "go hard or go home!" :boxing:
