I have a nice Giant Defy on the turbo which I fancied riding IRW through autumn / winter , so I thought I’d rebuild my steel bike up and put that on the turbo. The only problem was I couldn’t find the front mech adaptor so left front mech off . Jumped in a nice short 25 km Armed forces handicap race earlier on the Volcano flat course , it was a very fast start but after a few minutes i was thinking I’ve got this , until a couple of frantic shifts and the chain drops off , pack disappears and I’m left in no mans land. Quickly adopted plan B , which was Bologna time trial about 8 minutes away, jumps off bike , whips pedals off , puts Defy back on trainer , pedals back on . Strategy was 265W to the hill 295W up the hill, on the new virtual Canyon Aeroad , Result was 266 and 300 W and a PB of over a minute , so very pleased with that . Only ridden the course a couple of times and didn’t noticed the KM time / power checks until about 3 km in . Anyway , I’ll be sticking to the Defy for the ZRL .
