One of the thing a love about climbing mountains is there’s no hiding place. If you’ve not put in the work you can’t really bluff it. It’s also one of the things I hate about mountains!

Last summer I got found out a bit. I didn’t even know I was bluffing it until I’d done a couple of climbs. And then I realised I just hadn’t done the right preparation like I had previously and I was paying for it.

I think there’s a place for hiit training within an endurance training plan though. You need it to cope with the relentless nature of going up hill for so long.

Just checking why the C cat leader wasn't signed up for tonight .... looks like he got himself upgraded to B cat :wahhey: Opens up C cat a little bit, could be a podium tonight if I work hard enough

@Whorty is it just full gas tonight from start to finish?! Will try and get in front of you to tow you a bit but not sure if I will manage it
Same tactic as normal for me I think - go hard early and stick with lead group. Try not to get my nose in front and surf wheels as long as possible. From the pens there is a drag, then a bit of 'cross country' before the steep little climb. I can see the breaks happening first here. Then there is a small descent followed by quite a long climb (for this course anyway) - again I think splits will happen and this is where the lead group will form.

If I was you I'd just try and hang in to the lead group and watch for these climbs and splits - I wouldn't try and breaks early on for sure :surrender: Not much resting chances on this course so good for those with big power.

I'm planning to contest the sprints if I'm in the lead group, try and nick some points.

Small field signed up in C so could be interesting. I may be begging for your wheel after I try to sprint

I think I read something once (It sounds like something Linford Christie would say). That the last 5% is harder to get than the other 95% combined.

I wonder how much more any of us can gain. How close are we to our max potential. The equation would have to include life getting in the way versus time we can dedicate to something which should be kept in perspective. But then how much are we prepared to invest. Today I’m 75kg. I’m not changing my weight on zwift from 77kg because it fluctuates too far above that for me to consider it my daily weight. But for a Monday morning that’s very low for me. Too low probably. When is enough enough?

I digress...I suppose what I started off by meaning to say if I were you Carl I’d focus on small targets rather than the end destination. Then it just comes down to motivation doesn't it?

Anyways... good Monday to you all! From my favourite cafe in London. You’d walk straight past if you saw what it looked like from the outside. But the food, all cooked by one bloke, in the smallest kitchen in the world, is insane. Today’s special is sea bass and if you want it, you better get your name down before 8:30!

This mirrors my own thoughts/experience this year. Actually it seems we've been following similar paths @bobinski - subscribing to Sufferfest and following their plans over winter etc. The past few months I've been focusing on endurance - mainly mixing Z2 with tempo/SS rides. I've largely been keeping away from racing, but it is tempting to have a good blast on Zwift, particularly when they've been arranged by the good folks on this forum. The problem with racing is that it does leave me ruined for days after
Yeah, for me it’s a different type of fatigue to structured training. There’s some SF workouts that are designed to destroy you but even they don’t seem to hit me as hard as racing does. Even the near 2 hour workouts.
I am hoping to make it to Girona in October and will have a look at a mixed indoor/outdoor plan as prep. Come and join us👍

Ok guys, here's your time to beat in the TT on Greatest London Loop on Wednesday
537153

My plan was to hold back on my effort on the flat start and then really hit the hill hard - didn't really manage that very well though! The "flat" start is actually lumpier than I expected 😕

Good luck on Wednesday - it's a tough ride, I'll be thinking of you all

Great ride there Paul , noticed you were pushing on the descent too , no resting in super tuck , or doesn’t super tuck work on the TT bike . Tough time to beat .💪

Well that went badly. Coasting along at about 3w/kg and not concentrating enough so got gapped on the first bump at about 5km. Asked the legs for a sprint to get back on and they politely declined so pootled in and finished 8th of 13 :whistle:

Hope things went better in B. I was watching a bit of B on Zwiftpower and it looked like all the normal CycleChat crowd which was nice to see.
