I do this outdoors all the time but as you point out there are too many variables such as traffic and wind direction - I always blame a head wind if I’m slower than my best.
I rarely use Zwift segments - mainly because I think my PBs are tainted by my bkool trainer days. for now I would be blaming my Neo2 reading lower than the bkool and even the assiomas. You also have Zwift changing algorithms like the jungle dirt section affecting times.
I probably should delete all Zwift rides pre-Neo2. Has anyone else done this to ensure a level playing field for their Strava segments?
I've deleted most of my Bkool trainer times (any that I find that are way off I delete), but left the Kickr times as these are closer to the NEO.

Thanks @IrishAl ..... however, I clearly didn't make my opening question clear enough - as everyone is answering a different question than I thought I posed

Let me try again.

Does anyone ever ride aiming specifically to try and beat their previous best power for a specific time period? For example my previous best power for 5 minutes was 352W which I did in April 2019. I went out on Monday to try and beat it - and was pleased that I managed to achieve 362W. Just wondered if I was the only one doing this?
Yes

It would need to rotate like its in treacle

Expect 5-10W if the BB is top notch single piece design

I'd be happy with that, but I'm not really expecting anything specific. I did a ramp test not long ago that estimated FTP at 241 so when I get the bike back I'll re-do that same test and see if the new BB, chain and a clean has actually made any difference

A successful night for CycleChat in the DBR Boerkop Cykler Cup at Innsbrookring!

Tonight @steverob joined me for Race 5 in a field full of sandbaggers. Remi and Soeren from DBR were in attendance and were stuck to my back wheel. At the start of the race I was 38 points clear at the top of the D League so I needed to just mark 2nd place Remi and make sure my power didn't stray into C territory.

On lap 2 some of the sandbaggers took off and Steve managed to make the jump and stick with them. I stayed back and the two DBR riders just marked me leaving Steve free to ride off. After the climb he was about a minute ahead and looking nailed on for the win. On lap 3 it was just myself and Remi riding for 2nd but I noticed that a couple of riders were closing in so I attacked on the Leg Snapper getting a 12 second gap which carried me to my 3rd Prime win over Remi.

I managed to get the gap to 30 seconds and ride the rest of the race out at a leisurely pace securing 2nd on Zwift Power and all but securing the D League Boerkop Cup.

That gives me 4 wins and 1 second, then Steve a 3rd and a win! Tonight has secured CycleChat 2nd place in the overall as a nice bonus! :becool:

Congrats Steve - I think we rode a perfect race and you really did to the business with a tremendous breakaway ride! :okay:

Sorry I can't really commit, my wife has been spiking temperatures and is being tested for Covid (she's feeling a bit better but if she's positive I will also get it) so I'm probably not likely to be there, but tests could obviously come back negative

Fingers crossed all is ok

And to think that I wasn't originally planning to join that race! I had wanted to ride outdoors as much as possible this week, given I'd only just got my bike back from the LBS this weekend (was out of action for 6 weeks), but heavy rain showers in the afternoon meant the roads were still soaked this evening and with a thunderstorm forecast for 8pm (that in the end missed us), I thought staying in was a wiser idea.

And I almost missed the start - fiddling around with my headphones, I lost track of the time and so was still only doing 150W at the gun and had to sprint at almost 600W to get to the front; only to then realise I'd actually flown right past all the D riders I was trying to catch and was actually now riding with the sandbaggers! But that helped in a way, because it meant the legit Ds were able to use me as a way to bridge and bring the field back together again, at least for the early parts of the first lap.

@Joffey explained via PM he was happy just to mark the DBR guys and then encouraged me to launch an attack and (probably jokingly) see if I could solo the whole four laps! While I knew that was beyond me, I did raise the tempo, hoping that I might encourage the sandbaggers to break with me - on this occasion it didn't work as they pulled everyone else back up to me, but it did at least stand me in good stead for later.

First time up the climb I absolutely gave it everything (PR by 8 seconds) and surprised myself by almost staying with the group - at least was close enough to be able to catch back up to the leaders by the time we reached the sprint. I didn't have much left for the sprint itself, but did manage to put myself between Joffey and Remi to steal another point away from him - every little helps!

As we reached the end of the first lap, I noticed the sandbaggers starting to pull away, but this time none of the others were chasing, so I buried myself and just about caught their back wheels before it was too late - they already had a 5 second gap on everyone and that became 40 by the time we reached the climb; most of which I spent at the back of the pack of five.

Desperate to stay in the draft for as long as possible, with the intent of increasing my gap for the point when I would eventually get dropped, once again I gave it my all on the climb (2nd best time this time), hoping I might hold on and be able to spend the rest of the lap recovering. Two of the guys went flying up the road, but the other two were a lot closer to my ability level and at the top I was only 2 seconds down on one, and amazingly 3 seconds up on the other (though I think he had trainer problems, as his wattage was surging up and down like crazy and eventually he quit the race). Teamed up with the one ahead on the descent and he seemed happy to work with me - while he did probably 70% of the pulling, I did go to the front whenever I was able to and that meant we were still pulling away from Joffey and the DBR guys.

Third time up the climb he did drop me but I managed to pull him back by the sprint, but that extra effort really did tire me out - the final lap I basically just spent 95% of the time on his wheel recovering and this time on the last climb he just disappeared as I had nothing left. But the bonus laps I'd spent with a draft meant that job was already done - I had a minute on Joffey, who in turn had a minute on Remi, so it was a matter of just cruising to the line. Happy to finally have that little gold trophy next to my name in one of the leagues!

Invites sent for the HnH meet up next Weds. Accept or decline ASAP - if plans change either way the meet up will remain in your list of events so you can change your mind. This will help formulate the time gaps in advance. :okay:

Ok.

Time to kick off entries for next Wednesday's (24 June) CC TTT Hare and Hounds Meet Up.

I've put together a table below with the answers I had from people before last week's event. I've left the teams based on last week's riders, but we're a bit shorter in C and D this time round, so we may end up having to shuffle people down.

Can you check your status and let me know if you need to change it. Just a reminder, where there's a question mark, your answer was probably no or probably yes. Where there is no entry, I didn't get a reply.

I’m a Yes - and you can change my name to Tim (Ketty is my nickname)

I will be on the start line about an hour before so to not mess it up this time :cursing:

I was half joking :giggle: but I'm sure you could have done it! :boxing:

Next race in the team IRL without borders league is Richmond rollercoaster. I've signed up but uncertain whether I'll make it.

Don't think I've done it before but looks like a course that will have lots of early attacks. 12ish km lead in with 3 very steep short climbs then 4 laps of a pretty flat circuit (see the picture in the screenshot below).

Definitely looks like one to a absolutely smash the start of and try to hang on to the flats. I think I would have enjoyed it as a strong c riser, but could be a lonely b ride!
