Thanks Juha.

They're tough but I'm enjoying them and they certainly seem to be helping my overall performance
I have noticed that you are focused more time trials when you training on Zwift and seems to develop your performance as you said. How about sprinting on race, can you dig up that extra power peak when it's needed?. Have you practice that when you train TT ?.

1 m 28 s for 3 laps should more than make up for any time lost from the pen to the start of the dirt section !

It's certainly helping to hold a higher average power.

My FTP is up to 258w, average power between 3.4 and 3.6w/kg in my last 6 races and 20 minute max now 3.7w/kg. All of that a marked improvement since I stepped back up to B cat.

Top end power hasn't really improved that much. I really need to do some work on it, but it's been difficult to fit any specific training in. There's also the question of how much I can improve top end power as a 60+ rider, but there's quite a few guys in my age group putting out some big power figures for 15s, 30s and 1m, so it may be possible.

The last few non ITT races I feel like my tactics have improved a bit. I've got my timing better on my starts and I've managed to draft a bit better and that does help. The issue I need to address is the little kicks at the tops of climbs or sometimes going into a climb where you can get gapped if you can't respond quickly. That's caught me out in both the last two DBR races and you really pay for those errors.

@Del C - do you think it’s improved technique rather than improved power that is helping with your starts now, then?

You’ve gone from struggling to make the cut in that first surge off the line to cruising with the pack in relative comfort? I’d assumed that was increased power but perhaps it’s technique? Care to share the secret?

I think it's mainly technique, but being able to hold a higher average power helps.

I think I was just not putting down enough power early enough before the countdown reached zero. In hindsight, that sounds ridiculous, but like most technical improvements, it's the obvious things that tend to make the biggest difference.

I seem to have started to read the draft better and that's helped make better use of my power output. Just need to stop making small errors like easing back too early at the top of climbs.

I still need to work on top end power to get me out of trouble and to handle sharp climbs like the Underground escalator.

Signed up to the final DBR race on Monday. To come 2nd in the league behind Michael (@mjd1988 ) I need to keep Larsen in my sights and get 6 wheels between me and Johnny Fagerli. So, if any CCers want to help Michael and me secure the top 2 places in the league please come and join the fun :okay: All I need is for you to place yourselves between me and Johnny ..... I'll do my best to try and stick with Larsen ^_^

Be a real coup if we could do this as a team :hugs:

Flippin 'eck Jeff, you're having a hard time mate. Keep safe :okay:
It's really not that bad, I prefer the wacky weed anyway. And now that I'm legal I don't have to travel so far to get it. When I get it right it's like taking a couple ibuprofen with a relaxant. When I get it wrong, well, that ain't so bad either . I can't partake in alcohol though which has been tough given how much the wife likes prosecco.

Got my yearly follow-up in a couple weeks. Only concern so far has been a tiny spot in my other kidney. Bilateral kidney cancer is exceedingly rare and would be a sign of a deeper genetic issue. As a nice side effect they can monitor my stones and warn me if they're getting too big and we can proactively address them instead of heading to the er.

@Del C Friday 12th should be OK unless we have an emergency

Tues & Weds unlikely as they're work days for me and I have to feed wife in evenings and shower her etc so not usually enough time to ride too.
In theory 12th should work for me too. Company is giving everyone that day off because nobody is planning vacations and they're worried about burnout.

We've got 18 confirmed for this Friday 12 June, but we're short in the A group, so it looks like we'll have to move a number of people up to get even groups. I'll take a look at this later today.

There's a few people yet to reply and this may change things if those people are available. So here's a small nudge to @bridgy @kipster @Breedon @Add @Marino.g in the hope they'll be able to join us.

The position for Wed 24 June is a little different. We've got 12-13 and a stronger A team but more gaps in C and D. So, we may have shuffle people down in that event.

But it looks like we'll have enough in both to make it work.
