Well it was the DBR Boerkop Cykler Cup tonight! Not many entrants in D but there was a few DBR riders on the entry list including Jason B from Monday night fame. As I took to the start line JB was nowhere to be seen which was great news as there was only him and Remi Neilsen who I thought would give me a run for my money.

As it turned out I managed to gap Remi before the KOM but he clawed it back and we met half way up the climb but with seemingly nothing left in his legs and I managed to nip round him and take the KOM. I then pushed on and took the sprint by around 20 seconds and he never got any closer with the eventual gap being 54 seconds.

I was quite happy with my time of 54:04 too as looking back to Monday JB went round in 55:52 so I might have given him a good go for it tonight if he had entered. But he would have probably smashed me.

I was sat 8 points clear of Remi after Round 1 so hopefully that will be extended a bit after tonight's performance so I can build up a bit of a lead in preparation for the hillier courses. :boxing:

Great going - keep it up. :okay:

I've joined the Tour for All 10:15 race this morning if anyone fancies a spin. It's the Magnificent 8 route that we'll be riding on Monday as part of the DBR league, so using it as a recce.

Not many riders in the race so may end up being a lonely ride  I've joined cat A only because I think all cats start together and I was a little confused by the route options (I think A means the Magnificent 8 route!).

There used to be quite a lot of discussion about tyre choice and pressure back in the day over on the bkool thread. It was hard to pin it down exactly because the inconsistency of the turbo made it tricky to gage. But I know a lot of the guys were pumping the tyres up to well over 120psi. And personally I liked to take an old tyre from my commuter to use on the turbo because I thought they work better when they were a bit gnarled up.

A Singapore 1-2 in the B race today  (B race is actually C and D cat of the long route )

Annoying thing is, I dropped this guy twice, and twice the 3 sandbaggers in our little group of 5 pulled me back in  Oh well, just shows I need to learn to sprint better too

It needs practice and more practice to get a better sprinter. How long sprints are generally speaking those races, 20s or even longer or are they just short?. So back on the saddle and practice sprints Carl .

Today the sprint was over in 10 seconds. Bad move by me though to let it get to a sprint - I should have attacked from 0.5km out as I'm pretty sure I had a better 1 minute push than them. Live and learn

I've been 'demoted' to 3rd now ... and the guy given the win is an A+ rider who kept bringing the others in the group back to me when I broke free. This is why I've been avoiding the Zwift run races, no controls. Be really nice if Zwift would just sort this out.

Holy smokes, I don't believe it - I WON A RACE!

And not in the "ZwiftPower has said that I came first after all the sandbaggers and non-registered have been removed from the results" sort of way (which I have done before), but actually legitimately crossing the finishing line with "1st / 17" on the scoreboard to the right of the screen. I have NEVER managed that before and I am so totally stoked that I'm struggling to type this (although that might also be down to sheer exhaustion as well, because I am completely knackered too).

Okay, I'll admit that I was a bit lucky. It was a ZHQ Beta Crit Race, so the green cones were in effect, which meant that the field was limited to actual D's and not people pretending to be. And they really did work well - I got to take advantage of at least three riders who had the brakes put on them, including the one where I timed an attack perfectly into what turned out to be the winning breakaway with 2 laps to go. I also got some absolutely stellar power-ups at exactly the right time; hardly a duff one in there. And the guy who was catching me on the line also got green coned with just 10 metres to go (he was sprinting at 8.1 w/kg admittedly), which probably just about helped seal the win.

Anyway, I won't bore you with the details - especially when you can watch it for yourself later! Yes of course I did record it. Yes I will put in on YouTube and post the link on here. Yes I am definitely that vain!

Well done Steve. Team Cyclechat is on fire in every level. No need to be modest and talk about luck, every participants put their best and first who cross the finish line is best, that's it. Can't barely wait that youtube link :hyper:
