One thing we may have to do though is move people between groups at times. When I go back to commuting, I won't be able to take place in any of these events, leaving the D group down to just 4 entrants, while other groups might end up with as many as 7 or 8 if people who couldn't take part in the first race come back. It is important that each group has as close to the same number of starters as possible so that no one team has a massive draft advantage over the others.
🙋‍♂️ I’ll join D

Or even happy to start enrolling for a new “E” cat group. Lee you want in?

The hare and hounds calculations are based on the c group having a lot more people than d group generally (as would be the case- the d group actually had a few c riders in it). Our a group was mainly b riders as well
Also worth mentioning that 5 of us C riders race together as a team every week in the Danish league and we are therefore used to our strengths and weaknesses. On flats we are pretty equally matched, but on the hills we know who needs to take up the pull but still try and keep the team together. I think we played really well to that strength and knowledge last night :okay:

And I just did my own thing.

Regarding the handicaps. I’ll say this again. It’s not an exact science and it’s not really worth comparing to other organised rides like hare and hounds I don’t think. It’s pure trial and error! And it’ll change depending on the size of each team and who turns up on the night. I think the only way is to take times from previous attempts and jiggle them as needed depending on past results and the course we’re on.

Considering it was the first run they weren’t bad at all generally. Assuming everyone was close to their normal average power yesterday they’ll be closer next time.

Ok, well I have finally just managed to crawl back to the house from the cave of pain at the bottom of the garden ... I honestly didn't think it was possible to sleep on a bike saddle ... or was that unconciousness!

Looking back after the event, I would love to say that I enjoyed it, but I can't ... I hated every moment of it!! So, Same time next week? (to be honest 7PM works great as a time for me, earlier is really tricky depending on how long we spend down at the stables ... I can manage pretty much any day, but would prefer not Mondays, as that is my rest day)

I do, however, have a problem. She has told me that "Unless the big boys play nice, I won't be allowed to play with them again next time!"

It's the taking part that counts, not the winning

Just caught up on this morning's posts.

We've had suggestions of running this weekly, fortnightly or monthly. I was thinking of fortnightly for now, just to help it fit round people's racing schedules and the fact that better weather looks to be coming. That was my fourth race this week. I enjoyed it, but I expected to blow up on the last KoM and I didn't let myself down!

Of course, in winter we could step it up if people have more time available to them, with shorter days and worse weather outside, but we don't have to decide that now.

Useful inputs on Hare and Hounds timings and looking at Zwift Insiders course difficulty index. I think both of these could be helpful if we move to a new course, but for now I tend to side with those who've said that tweaking last night's handicaps and running the next event on the same course seems to be the best way to go.

Finally, on the choice of day. I picked Friday because the survey put Friday in first place. 2nd was Wednesday and 3rd was Thursday. Very few people seemed to want Monday or Tuesday. Since then, about 3 or 4 people have said that Friday may be a problem for them going forward. I'm quite happy to move to another day. For me, Wednesday would be second choice. I think about 6 of us are involved in the TTT event on Thursday, so that's going to knock a big hole in the teams. I'd have to back out of my road club's ITT on a Wednesday (which I'm one of the organisers of) but I could do that.

So, I'm suggesting fortnightly, tweak the handicaps, stay on the same course for now and maybe move to Wednesday if that's the consensus. I'm happy to look at some other courses and handicaps in the background and put some suggestions up if people want me to.

I'm a 'no' for Mondays, but a 'maybe/will try my best to attend' any other day as I can't 100% commit until the day. I'll always try to join though, especially if we get a favourable start time ;)

Probably a confession here, but I find these races 'easier' than the DBR style racing; last night we were actively trying to keep the blob together but in the DBR series the other buggers are constantly trying to drop me and I'm constantly in the red. Being able to push when needed, but sit in and have micro-rests is a big bonus for me; i think having such an equally matched group of riders really helped us and there was no one rider pulling extra hard and breaking the group up.

Sounds good, Del. I'd say keep it simple - same teams, same course, and same gaps except A have 2:30 gap rather than 3:00
