obviously all this is trial and error but I really think the idea of piggy backing an organised race really makes the timing more clear at the end.
In theory, it does, which I think is why @IrishAl proposed it last time.

We stuck with the Meet Up method last time we had this discussion, but I think we should probably give the piggy back option a go and see how it works out.

As Tommy says it has to be the first team. I also suggest that say after the 5km to go no team has to yield-its a race to the finish!

5km is way too much in my opinion. Going on the basis that we’re trying to set handicaps where everyone comes together as close to the end as possible. You’re basically saying no one should ever have to yield.

The problem isn’t so much begrudging a toe to toe fight. It’s more that sticky draft is a pain. It’s also much harder to work out who the winner is if it’s a giant bait ball at the end.

1km?

5km to go seems a bit far out, you'll still be on the descent from the KOM at that point. Maybe anything after you pass the sprint banner for the last time (about 2.5km)?

Ok for tonight, I'll stop worrying about details and overthinking things.

Lets stick with 3rd across line. If its clear visually then its all good. If there's any dispute, we fall back on segment timing. Not perfect, but then there isn't a perfect solution, and this is the best we can do. And its meant to be fun, so let's approach it that way.............. especially if B wins!

And if we've got a few people recording the race, we've got another fall back to sort out placings/kick off a massive argument! :wahhey:

Bad news guys. The A team haven’t even picked out a kit yet. So the chances of one of us filming seems remote. With that in mind it’s unlikely you’ll have footage of THE WINNERS crossing the line sorry

I'd agree, 1km to go feels fairer - 5km to go is still about 8 minutes of riding. But I'll go with whatever the group agrees.

What about @steverob's suggestion as a compromise.

Team being overtaken has to yield and let the overtaking team pass.

From the last sprint marker, which I think is between 2 and 2.5 kms from the end, then no need to yield and both teams can race head to head?

Happy with that ... 2.5km is about 3-4 mins so both (all) teams will be flat out then and will be hard to drop power and restart :okay:

Of course, this is all a moot point, and the only yielding will be for those battling it out for 2nd/3rd place as we'd have finished by then

I think 5km doesn't sound that bad, especially as you'd imagine the faster group will still ride away from slower group, but might just cause a bit of chaos.

At that point it would have to be conceded that the catching team had won but you could just have an individual shootout from that point
