Happy for you guys to let me know what’s best to do etc

all push to front group from the off (For about a minute 😂) then can move back if required?
That sounds about right - first few km I think is gentle rolling (no big lumps) so we should get pulled along in front group if we get in it. When we hit first climb maybe then try and form a group up and over. On a rolling course like this, being on your own can be painful and slow.

I can see a few going off too hard, pushing too much on the first few lumps, then getting dropped. If we pace it well we should be able to start picking these up as the race goes on :okay:

Good luck tonight chaps 👍👍

I did this course a few weeks ago in a race so it’s still relatively fresh in my mind. The good thing about it is you avoid all the futuristic, glass roaded stuff, which I’m not a massive fan of. The bad news is it’s quite up and down. In fact it feels like pretty much constant up and down. So my advice is to really put your foot down to stay with the pack on the small climbs. And know you will have the chance for a small recovery afterwards. There’s one hill that’s longer than the others and ramps up at quite a pitch. Being able to stay with your group on this longer hill may well define your finish position in the race. It’s a tough course for sure. But like I say, it’s not constant. So just try your best to nick little recovery’s where you can and try to sit near the front of your pack so you don’t get gapped on the climbs.

Good luck again gents!

It’s that one at around 4.5km. It’s a real bastard! But just tell yourself you get some decent recovery afterwards. Especially if you can get over the top with other riders.

Warming up for the DBR race now but not feeling very motivated. Legs are heavy after a foolish ascent of the alp yesterday and haven’t prepared well today. Sometimes I can be pleasantly surprised by my legs when they feel like this so here’s hoping.

Either that or I will be spat out within a few KM like last week!

Worst warm up ever. By the time I jumped on my bike with 2 mins to go I noticed it was stuck in the little ring. Brute force fixed it (for now ).

Petersen went off with a couple of b flyers and you could see him just ease off when he realised that although he could hold the pace he would be dq'd.

I went for the sprints and paid for it badly, leaving Brendan and Carl in the front group. We had been going so fast it left me in limbo for aaaaages before the second group swallowed me - I thought Andy was in it but not sure; lots of really strong risers, just shows how much a few sandbaggers can wreck the pace of a front group. Finished near the front of it so pleased enough given I didn't think I'd be riding an hour before it (and 40 seconds before it!)

Hope b and d group got on as well.

Bloody hills, lost the front group at the peak of the second climb. I wouldn't have lasted much longer with those repeated hills. I and a few others formed a small group which with about 7 to go got joined by a bigger group from behind. I was comfortable for the most part even being up the front on the climbs. I stupidly was checking my position and missed the burst of energy over a crest- dropped. I eventually got joined by a rider who must have been heavier than me by the look of his avatar. I felt I had the better power, being able to let him go and then catch him. And so to the sprint more of a ramp up instead of flat out affair. I went with 200 yds, he blew up after a 100 yds. A modest position, late 20's.

Just seen Carl, Brendan, Michael in the top 10:okay:

Always feels a bit unfair that I finished a min and a half behind Carl but will probably leapfrog with sprint points.

I did think when dropped I'd probably recover and ride comfortably over the big hills then back myself to put sprint most of the second group (as I'd have a good recovery because there was a 3 min gap) but still. I didn't have much choice as I was just wrecked.

Sometimes feels like a points classification and a time one would make more sense? Sprints seems to have too much emphasis in this series but I shouldn't complain.

Edit; I know this isn't an original idea. I've just described every stage race ever.

Messed up the start! Ended up off the back and had to push hard to get back on ... then flew through the pack to the front :banghead: Just sat in the group and then realised this was the front and didn't have much choice by then but to hang on. Was nearly dropped a few times a d had to chase on which took quite a bit of my last reserves. By the time I was really dropped I was out on my legs (about 4 km to go?) and had to roll in on my own. Not a bad ride but had I not wasted energy a few times I probably could have hung on longer.

Oh well ... there is always next week

Great ride Brendan :notworthy:

Also the rest of the team .... so good rides tonight on what is a nasty course. I see D were amazing again :wahhey: And some strong showings in B too
