I'm thinking we should try and make a decision on how, what, where and when for our first attempt.

So how about we:
  1. use the new Meet Up to keep it simple
  2. ride a Team Time Trial (time taken on 3rd rider over the line)
  3. on the Watopia Figure 8 using the times in the table I've posted
  4. using the Zwift Insider Strava segment for the 3rd placed riders times
  5. this Friday 15 May at 19:00 UK / 20:00 CET
@bridgy Can you sort out the Meet Up?

Either 22 May or 29 May we ride a Hare and Hounds event on the same course or using @IrishAl 's idea of piggy backing on to the ZHR event. Running this 2nd gives us a bit more time to faff around over precisely how we can make this work :biggrin:

I'm up for the TTT.

I did answer your survey as well last week, but did wonder how you would know, as there was no "name" field to fill out.

But the results were in line with my schedule (DBR Race Monday, Feltet.dk race Tuesday and then BKOOL Thursday and Saturday). Leaves Wednesday and Sunday for outdoor rides, unless I do double stints. ^_^

Looking at some of these times on there would the handicap gap need to be 4 mins to make it a little more competitive? Even 4:30? Or give D a bit more of a head start?

I imagine my time would be about 58 mins, JLaw would be similar to Steve - which makes D around 3 minutes slower than the target time when A, B & C are all there or there about at the target time.

It is true that most Hare & Hounds style races do give larger gaps to the lower categories, so it might be worth doing that, but it's a very imprecise science and can be difficult to get just right. Heck, I've been in an H&H where the lead D group actually won by over 30 seconds from the C's (with A's and B's nowhere near), although that was a pancake flat course and a VERY motivated group!

Maybe we do the first race with the current gaps and then if us D's end up coming in minutes behind everyone else, we can get the timings adjusted for the next race.

This is the only way really. Trial and error. The more races we do and possibly on the same course, the more accurate it’ll get. But it’ll never be perfect.
It is genuinely a very good laugh though. And a bloody good workout to boot! Nothing gets you peddling harder than when you see people bearing down on you. Just try and keep that jaws music out of your head! 🦈

Yeah no problem - happy to set up the meetup :okay:

Thanks for all your work on this Del - I kind of dropped the idea and did a runner! Sorry - I've been distracted with several other things going on so thanks for getting it all organised

No worries.

I had some spare time so thought I'd help push things along.

Apologies for the tardy response @Del C - I've been keeping a lower profile whilst I've been off the bike . Thanks for organising, there's been a lot to catch up on but yep, I'm up for a TTT. Friday's often not the best day for me but I'll try and make it if I can as it sounds 'fun' :okay:

@steverob @JLaw

Not sure if JLaw is racing tonight - not yet signed up. Hope he can make it.

What's the plan tonight Steve? Just the usual? Follow Jason and then try and nick it? ^_^
Last time he joined quite late - we actually had some PMs in the pen about how the race was going to go!

Tonight is going to be difficult. On such an undulating course, I don't think I'll be able to hang with the main group for three whole laps. And especially as the sprint point is right towards the end of the lap, I think JB will easily be able to hoover up all the points. Might be best just to let him go, then try and identify who else in the lead group(s) is a legitimate rider on ZwiftPower and make sure we finish ahead of them so that the Cyclechat team gets as many points as possible overall.

I'm thinking the same tactics in the C race too tonight :okay: Maybe if the C riders can form a little group we can push together, hoover up a few stragglers, and get along quite a nice pace. I think working too hard too early on this course could cause issues later on in the race :B)

Good luck tonight teams B and D
