I had to balance my first few minutes of effort against my HR. I was redlining for first lap and slowly recovering for lap 2 when the splits began. It was a wise move to stay in my pack, we collected quite a few riders late on once Chris's group made our pack a decent size. I probably could have gone a bit faster mid race-if i had a pack to join. There is no point busting a gut to try and bridge a 20 second gap, it isnt going to happen

I was pleased with my effort to finish. I've struggled with chest infections and lack of training/motivation over the months. My chest doesnt feel that bad this morning, so here is hoping I am upward turn,

Great results Martin and excellent power :okay:
That was a good call you made Andy, wish I'd done the same! With races like this, it can be a bit of luck sometimes between going off hard and hoping enough people drop that can form a decent group (as I had last week), compared to sitting back a bit, forming a good group of chasers and the picking up the stragglers (as you did). Unfortunately I went for the go really hard and blow up

Looking at my overall numbers though I wasn't that bad .... just went far too hard early on and triggered an asthma attack. Strangely my HR didn't peak anywhere near what it's been doing recently (173 last night, compared to 179 in past races).

I did come 5th in the 1st sprint ..... shame the following 11 sprints I was nowhere to be seen :biggrin:

Rest day today as chest not quite right, but hopefully ride again tomorrow (wife allowing  )

I failed to research where the sprint points were, so I was poorly placed for it, made my way to the front in the wrong part of the lap:laugh: Had i known I would have got some points for the first lap-Oh well

HR is a funny thing, dont train for a few weeks and it hits a higher peak. over train and it wont go so high.

My max when on top form is around 173, last night 182,

Occasionally i have similar high readings too even in a middle of recovery ride, feels like arrhythmia symptoms in my case.

The start was mental. I did my highest 1 minute power (on ZP stats, not IRL) at the start and still ended up about 90th going into the first Prime. At the top, I was back to 55th and after a lap or so, the first split happened and I was in the second group which started about position 60. @Brusgaard and @LBHIFI were also in the group. I assumed Pete was in the lead group.

I set my best ZP 1 minute and 5 minute powers and my overall NP was over my FTP so I'm fairly pleased. I'll have to practice sprinting at the start rather than VO2 maxing at the start - and then recovering
The split happended right about the 5 min mark, just 2 riders in front of me. I was really determined this time to give it my all to close any gaps, but my hr was scary high so didn't dare to try.
Just got my Garmin file into Golden Cheetah and it reports my 2. highest ever 5 minute of 341 watts, so there was a reason for the high heart rate .
However, the heart rate was unusual high throughout the race, even when we dropped the pace a bit after the 5 min.

Maybe its just me, but I don't watch my HR when I'm racing at all. I don't even have it on my Garmin screen for IRL racing. I also don't look at Average power until after the race.

It was nice having the three of us racing close together most of this race :okay:

I know my numbers quite well, but as you, normally don't give it much thought until after the race. However, I noticed the unusual high heart rate during warm up, so paid extra attention to it last night.
