Here you go @Whorty - I couldn't let the opportunity to showcase your glorious moment pass

Whorty sits proud at the top of the early leaderboard after the weekend results. In fact all C cat riders have completed the first stage, which highlights his impressive ride. :okay:

Get your 1st stage ride in by Wednesday (London long route). I don't think I'll be able to do all stages as I'm in the middle of a SF plan but will try and do what I can.

I am planning to ride the IoW randonnee on Sunday 3rd of May. Any one else fancy it??

Don’t necessarily need to do the full ride together but might be nice to at least share a breakfast and ferry in the morning if anyone else is planning to take part?
Can't unfortunately, but a few of us (Lee, Tommy, Andy Bob, Paul, , Dean, Paul (Kipster) went over there a couple of years ago (not the Radonnee) and rode around for the day. Really nice place to ride .... there is a video somewhere (@CXRAndy ) of @bobinski toppling off his bike  Definitely not funny  Hope you have a great day.

I’ve been doing a bit of sweet spot training but I want the trim bike so I’ve been doing it up the alp. Maybe that’s not helping and I should do some on the flat too.

I don’t know the science behind all this but part of me believes it’s mental because Watts are Watts right? Especially on the turbo! But then, it’s such a common thing that there may be something else behind it.
Do workouts, but on the Alpe climb, then you get you tempo training in, and you gain the ascent metres too ..... win-win

Yeah that's what I've been doing - have got a custom workout of 3x15min sweet spot blocks with two minutes recovery between them. I get about 2/3 up the climb in the session, then push for the last 1/3. Quite similar to stage one of TdZ really! I just wonder if there is any difference in doing the workouts on a climb rather than on the flat? In theory no because it's a fixed wattage rather than a gradient simulation, but there is a nagging doubt in my mind!

I think you have to do a "lap" each day, whatever that means - not just ride.
I read on Zwift insider that you have to ride at least 10km. I don’t think it has to be officially a lap such as the Volcano circuit. I’ve just completed day 7 of the same challenge and have done 10km rides in Zwift even on days when I’ve been riding outdoors just for the badge. Got the badge on the next log in and starting a ride after completing the 7th day.

If you want to maximise your XP as well then you should do the Alpe in workout mode and design the workout so that the workout blocks are actually done as “intervals”. You get 12XP per minute for intervals, and 10XP per minute for a standard block - it doesn’t matter if it’s a Z1 block or a Z6 block. So if you dont actually want to do intervals but want more XP then just set the higher intensity the same as the low intensity.
I did the alpe the other day all in Z3 but as intervals of 270/260w. Got me 580XP rather than 480XP if I’d just set it as a Z3 block. You would only get around 240XP riding the Alpe outside of a workout.
If you time it so you get all the way to the top you can turn your Avatar around and let him/her freewheel back down and pick up free XP on the way down while your in the shower 😄

I probably won't be able to make it this year unfortunately, but I have ridden the Randonnee several times - always enjoyed it as a friendly, chilled out event with some great views and countryside. I have family on the island which was why I started doing it and it was probably the IOW Randonnee that got me into cycling really. First few times I did it (many years ago) was on a mountain bike with a pannier rack and it took ALL day and I viewed it as an epic challenge! I'm not saying it's an easy ride - it's pretty hilly - but how tough I found it is a reminder of how far my cycling has come. Hope you have a good day!

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. I have done it twice before and my journey sounds quite similar to yours. My route into road cycling was initially a 12 miles per day commute and as my fitness and speed improved I targeted the IoW randonnee as a challenge, and used Zwift to train for it.

So I suppose the randonnee is one of the main reasons I'm here! I haven't done it for a couple of years now (since we had our son) so really looking forward to getting back to it this year. I used to live in Portsmouth and have recently moved to Southampton so it's always been just over the water, and the ferry is quite reasonable for foot passengers. It's a great ride, and although there are a few competitive folk about it's mostly a very relaxed ride with a great atmosphere and camaraderie between riders.

I'm very honoured that you consider me a Category C rider! Even at my fittest and fastest I still (just) came in under the 2.5w/kg border - now it's more like 2.2 to 2.3 unfortunately. So I'm a D all the way!

I might join you. It was pretty straight forward getting down there from London and 9am start is very civilised. Would you mind reminding me closer to the time?
