It’s one thing starting after the line. But not finishing on the line is more anyoying to me. it’s like playing football as a kid with jumpers for goal posts. Or racing your mate to the lamp post at the end of the street. Seems crazy we’re not past that point. And yes, obviously it’s zwifts fault.

Just because we start after a line why can’t we race segments that finish on one? Whether it’s the verified one or not does it matter? Can we make our own segment that finish on a line I f needs be? I can see how this happened. We didn’t know it was going to work out that way so then had to pick a segment that kind of fitted. But it’s annoying.
1. It was just convenient to use the segment that was chosen I guess. I wasn't involved as I couldn't ride the Tuesday event - it was after this first go that people realised the Zwift Insider verified segment wasn't goingto work so they just chose a segment that did work. This segment has been set up to start and finish at about the same place (both after the line). I don't think there's a better existing segment to use that takes account of where we spawned AND finishes on the line. We could set up our own segment after the event BUT...

2. I tried setting up a new segment AFTER the event the other day if you remember - it didn't work as it didn't sync with everyone's rides for some reason

3. It's actually harder than you might thing to create a segment that finishes EXACTLY on the line. You have to zoom right in to place the finishing point in a particular place and compare it with a zoomed in map from a ride where you do know where the finish line is. BUT, when zoomed right in the map for the actual ride and the map for creating the segment aren't the same! It's quite infuriating!

4. Thankfully this doesn't happen very often - usually there's a lead in from the spawn point to the start of the verified segment so its usually not a problem

Thanks for clarifying it all @bridgy! I know it's not ideal but it's what we have to live with at the moment for meetups where we are spawned after the intended segment start point. Looking at Bridgy's graph @<Tommy> it looks like you lost a couple of seconds to him from where you coasted. If that's the gap in the final reckonings, we can look to set up an arbitration panel at the UCI ^_^

If people are still intending doing a stage 3 re-run tomorrow afternoon send me an invite. I'd like to do that again with a calibrated PM.

It is good it doesn’t happen too often. I think it’d be a deal breaker for me to be honest.

Hope you don’t take it as a criticism of your efforts! It’s just a bit cr@p isn’t it. On a positive note it’s better it happened in a TT rather than a group race.

I think the root of the problem here is that the Camden Charger stopped charging, while the Cheddar Chugger just kept on chugging?!

Hope that helps? :becool::laugh:

Can’t we get someone involved slightly more trustworthy than the UCI?!

No don't worry I'm not feeling criticised - but I am just trying to clarify what's going on and how it works. To be quite honest I'm usually a bit confused about exactly where start/finish lines are on even the most straightforward courses! Other people often seem much more definite and confident of knowing where the line is than me - which is probably why I have less of a problem accepting if its a bt vague, just keep going! Having said that, similar to this happened to me a few stages ago - in that case the finish banner was AFTER the meetup finish and I stopped early becasue of that if you remember

Yes Pete, in that graph comparison I posted earlier, the difference in time between where our lines are at their closest near the end, and the finish -after @<Tommy> drops back slightly - is 2 seconds

I had a look my stage 3 effort too and looks like I wasn’t going full gas for the first minute as I was waiting for the banner. I.ll give it another lash this afternoon. I also think there’s some time to be clawed back in stage 2 if I pace it better as I went badly into the red on the volcano climb.
Does anyone want an invite for 4pm today For a stage 2 and 3 double header?

Edit: I see that innsbrucken is the guest world today so I’ll have to fire up the laptop to hack into London. Don’t think I can make a meet up for that one but could manually meet up if anyone else is on board. I can use that as a warm up for Watopia.
I would join you if I could Al but I have to take my son to a football match tonight so can't unfortunately

No probs. Enjoy the game.

what course are you thinking of for next week Bridgy. I see the calendar has London as guest world Tuesday and NY on Thurs. does that mean it’s a Watopia course.

Yeah sounds like Watopia will be best.

I was actually wondering whether we could work out the logistics of doing this handicap race? I have times we can use (from last month's TT) for staggered start times, but we would need to pick a time where everyone - or nearly everyone - can do it to make it worthwhile. There's also a few technicalities to iron out which I've been thinking about but haven't fully resolved yet!

Are people up for trying this? Or shall I set up a "normal" Tuesday/Thursday stage and we try the handicap race separately as an experiment. Thing is, I don't want it to go horribly wrong and spoil what has so far been a reallyg good, close league

I would vote to complete the league as normal, and maybe do something different in December?

With December as it is, people are likely to be effected by social engagements and perhaps we could do a series of weekly one-off races rather than a league? Handicap could be one week, with other formats on the other weeks?

Either that or handicap race as a Christmas special?

To me it feels right to test it outside of the league and consider including it in future leagues if it is a success.

OK I think I've updated the table with all the stage times I could see from last night. let me know if I've missed you off.

It's tantalisingly close between @bridgy and @<Tommy> at the top, with just 5 secs separating the pair. With one stage left will it be the Camden Charger or the Cheddar Chugger that takes the plaudits?

Lots of battles up and down the league so all to play for. In the battle of the C's, can anyone challenge Del one last time before he steps up to B cat next month? Exciting stuff.

I don’t know my time, I can’t see the segment. This happens half of the time. Can anybody link me their Strava segment please?

Yep - I'd concur with Mr Legs on this. Finish the league as normal for November and try it out next month.

As an aside - I reckon my 'handicap' will need adjusting a bit, as I wasn't 100% when doing the TT last month.
