As long as I breathe, I attack.
My ride today took me part way on Route 66 of the Derby cycle way. Despite the headwinds and the hilly bits the Cytronex E bike kit worked flawlessly made riding a pleasure.

did you come across the derby sportive crowd?
i didnt go out today as it was peeing it down and TBH after a hard week of work then most of yesterday doing mini ck2 new bed im knackered .

Out on the Tricross at 11am for a meet up with friends Martin & Gaynor for a steady ride to Boroughbridge for coffee. The rain held off and it ended up being quite a nice afternoon.

Last weekend was a 70 miler with various friends turning up along the way - a birthday celebration and the clue is in the distance.

Yesterday Richard organised a one of his breakfast rides, 70km - to a pub for breakfast, then a circuit to ride it off. It was a chilly start, but a climb over three chevrons warmed us up. After breakfast we continued via Hemyock to Westcott - We did stop for a quick beer there. Then back via Ashclyst Forest (more climbing and a roadside trig point) to finish just before the rain came properly on.

50 miles to grassington.

Weather was fine but cold, two layers and tights. Sun did come out occasionally but not enough to warm air up!

Roads were quiet main road to grassington. 2 buzzards curlew and lapwing seen.

Coffee house was disappointing see tea room thread.

Back road via appletreewick was typically quiet with one stray scrawny chicken! Road closed but passable past landslide.

I popped out for a quick gravel ride late afternoon yesterday.

whilst i started the year in good form having a 100% record of a daily rides as far as the 2nd January  a combo of hockey season (now ended) crap weather and a massive decorating /DIY list mean I have since made it out on easter sunday and last night.

My veloviewer summary is looking very poor indeed. I defo need to up my game as I have 4 consecutive 50 mile days approaching in a months time and Hilly 120km warm up the week before.

On the plus side the legs felt good and the arse didn't hurt and swapping the wheels for the ones without the graunchy bearings was a big improvement. I also went down a new bit of bridal-way cum bye-way which nice linked a couple of favourite offroad sections up missing out a busy road. Part of it was across a field and may well have been footpath but it was pretty rural, no-one complained and only a couple of kissing gates to lift over!

A cold 10 mile ride yesterday, the highlight being a barn owl sat on a gate.

I went out this evening on my mountain bike.
A big treat, all the way around The Warren to the Teahouse.

It was glorious!

I saw lots of yellowhammers, swallows and a lone buzzard.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking

Cricket nets were cancelled this evening and so I got out for a ride instead. Nice sunshine, only a gentle breeze, but a cold one still and needed 3 layers on.

I followed my usual route to Dad’s, via Hook a Gate and Annscroft, remarkable only for all of the traffic on the busy road giving me loads of room and being patient with their overtakes!!

I followed the lane to Stapleton, being patiently overtaken by a Golf, with a thanks from the hazards, only to round the next bend to find them reversing back towards me to let a young couple in a Fiesta through. The male passenger in the Fiesta thanked the golf driver by leaning over and sticking the middle finger up at them. WTF?!

I had 45 minutes chatting with my Dad and then my Brother, before setting back out to Gonsal. Waited an age to cross the A49, behind another chap on a much sportier looking bike than mine, who then left me for dead on the lane to Ryton.

I varied my usual route back by heading to Berriewood. The lane between the farms at Ryton and Wheathall was flooded, necessitating a freewheel with feet in the air, showing still how much rain has come down recently.

From Berriewood there is a nice descent to Condover, where I joined Lyons Lane, along with mud and stones back all over the road from the farmers heading too and from the fields. 3 tractors out ploughing in one of the fields near Betton Bank.

I finished by heading through Betton Abbots and then home. The road near home has finally started to have some of the white lines re-painted, but they appear completely random in those that have and haven’t been done. I hope they’re coming back to finish them off, as they’ve been almost completely missing for 12 months, including the painted cycle lanes.

Local ride today of 30 odd miles. Still a nagging discomfort with a cool wind. I want tee shirt and sandal cycling weather now, fed up with layers.
So Luddington, Hemington, Barnwell, Oundle, Glapthorn, Southwick, Bulwick, Blatherwycke pausing for a sausage bap, rocky road and a hot chocolate at Kings Cliffe bakery/ cafe. Very good if you haven't tried it.
Onwards to Apethorpe, Woodnewton, Fotheringhay, Elton and then along the closed Rd to cross the A605 at its widest point on the peak of a hill where you guess what high speed vehicle might be heading your way. Then onto the Bullock Rd back to GG.

Another short after work ride with Paul, yesteday. Got the Carbon out again, with the dry roads around the Town.

Sun was out but still quite chilly and a bit of a breeze.

Rode to Paul’s and we repeated last weeks route, with not much to report, other than obstacles doing their best to be run over. Paul almost collected a Dog, in the Quarry and I almost had a jogger who ran straight into my path from steps by a bridge, followed by a chap on a bike, exiting a tunnel way too fast, followed too closely by his daughter who exclaimed “dad why did you stop” as she ran into him from behind 🤦‍♂️ The alternative was a head on with me.

Anyway, 13.38 miles at 11.5mph avg
