Sun out and a decent day for a ride so out on the Tricross at lunchtime with David from our village. A high cadence training ride was the order of the day, 30.25 miles with an average of 16.2 mph.

After a wet and stormy week in Wales, where my planned cycling was completely curtailed, I took the opportunity to get out when back home in Shrewsbury today. It was very cold at 9am and was more like a January morning 🥶

I followed the cycle paths and suburbs out of the town, to Uffington and then joined the wet and partly flooded lanes to Upton Magna. I then climbed up East Haughmond and down the straight descent to Somerwood and Rodington Heath.

I passed a couple of riders out on horses, before taking the lane to Withington, then back up to Upton Magna. The rat run to Atcham wasn’t too bad, then I paused on the old bridge, where the river was brown and on its way up again with the amount of rain that’s fallen here and in Wales this week.

I took the hillier route back from there, up Chilton Lane and around to Betton Abbots, then home via the estates.

21.93 miles at 12.4mph avg

Post lowered by 3mm @fossyant ? Do you always ride with a Vernier Gauge to hand 🤣

Good to hear new steed is well. Looked great in the pics I saw yesterday 👌

I did a quick double check with my road bike and it was a little high - thought I'd leave it, but my right knee told me it wasn't quite right, so lowered it (pretty good at estimating ):okay:

Felt a bit strange ploughing through mud and gravel on a 'road bike'. Couldn't quite go as fast on descents as I'd do on the full suspension with it's big nobblies, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I took the bell off yesterday as it was rattling - took a better look at it today, and it was the bell casing rattling on the mount (you have to twist the bell housing off the mount to secure it to the bars with the rubber strap). A blob of grease on the bracket and it stopped rattling. I did need it today.

Not quite the sunshine of yesterday but dry if overcast. Headed out through Scarecrow central as Wray prepares for its annual festival. I couldn’t make out the theme yet but perhaps the coronation Judging by the King and Queen figures outside the village store. Then the long climb up to Cross o Greet pausing only for a couple of pics and to try and help a guy whose chain had wedged between cassette and spokes. I hope he made it home ok. Good range of upland breeding birds including Curlew, lapwing, skylark and meadow pipet. Then, the big descent down to Slaidburn and the undulating road to Dunsop Bridge. The latter was very busy so continued to Chipping for a late lunch of a monster sausage roll. Then cycle.travel had some fun with me taking me on roads I’ve never noticed before. There were some steep pulls to the gliding club then an amusing route to Scorton. Exactly 100 km, thanks to an extra lap of the bus stop, and 1500 m of climbing.

Pictures are of the three peaks with Ingleborough in the middle, and the upper Hodder valley road.

Herne Bay to Dover and back. Across the county on the way there and followed the coast home. Fantastic day, my Brooks saddle adjustable nut thing snapped (weird I read just the other day this happened to someone else on CC). I will sort out a new thread for it in the week. Too many loose yappy dogs but remained calm without having a go at owners. I don't care they just want to play, just control the blo*dy thing. I don't rub my muddy bike over your legs do I! Why is it OK to let your mutt bounce around me? Happy face. @fabfoodie in case you are homesick.

bloody horrible is the best way to describe the ride today !
forecast a very low chance of showers , clearing to nice weather and the roads were dry when i got up some took a chance of the summer bike for todays planned ride over to cannock chase birches valley but as we set off from the meeting place in moira the drizzle started which turned into a proper shower,
"It will blow over soon " we kept telling ourselves but it was like the cloud was following us and by the time we got to Greater Haywood with another 5-6 miles of hard slog up over Brockton we opted to have the cake stop and ride straight back.
Drying out gloves etc in the toilets but its a bit hard to dry out soaked feet and we had to wipe the seats after we were done as there were puddles ( luckily wooden chairs )
Coming back i did a 20 odd mile pull on the front to get us home until the legs went pop on the last hill and i had to slow things down.
Coming home i was maybe half a mile short of the metric century so i did the right thing and rode up and down the road to get the total
Feet were agony when i got into the bath with chillblains and my shoulder is really sore so a tough day .
62 miles done and dusted .

First proper ride since my fall a month ago.

40 miles to hebden bridge and back over the col du oxenhope.

Didn't have cake in hebden bridge as I has a bar of fruit and nut! which was a mistake as I bonked the last hill back up to Baildon! Had to walk!🤣🤣

Rode on the ridgeback rapide which is fast becoming my do it all bike!
