An enjoyable ride yesterday, well once I got to Oakham. On the 25miles up I couldn't believe how slow I was going into a cold north wind, kept on getting off the bike too check the brake weren't squeezed on. I had first thought I'd be a wee bit early and was dreading the thought of going for a spin round the block to pass the time after last week  but when I was 5miles north of Oakham I thought I was going to be well late  but its downhill into the town and I was only a minute or two late and I was glad to see @Poacher waiting on the corner where we popped round the corner for an enjoyable forum ride, a surprise which @dr_pink had organised for @totallyfixed Birthday :birthday:I also realised why I was going so slow, my chain had dried out :shy:
Lots of pictures were took of the ride but not by me  I'll update if they appear (Edit Pictures ). Especially the one of the cafe stop 'cake of the day'
After which we headed for more Cake :hungry:
I opted for the train back to get back for a Christmas party and more :hungry:
Today I thought I better burn some of it off and joined some mates for a ride, after which my thighs/lungs wanted to go further but I felt a bit sore in the calf's. Having had a recent bike fit I guessed it was just my body adapting so I decided not to stress it further.

The Glue that binds us together.
Set of this morning to do a hill climb competition with the club, 4 miles out one of the guys got a puncture so we stopped while he sorted it out, pulled away on the bike and the gears felt like they were sticking, further down the road i could not change the rear gears at all, turned out to be a broken cable in the shifter. got a screwdriver out and screwed the bottom stop screw in and managed to hold it onto the 14 tooth sprocket, at least that gave me 2 gears to ride it home. my other half and her mate had decided to bail on the hill climb a bit earlier and went of with the house keys, so a quick phone call to her and they had only got a few miles away they agreed to wait in the cafe up the road to where they had stopped, so made my way to the cafe had a cup of tea and a piece of cake, any way decided to carry on with them to Shenley where we had a nice breakfast and more tea. was a bit hard on the hills but at least i got a few miles in, turned out a very pleasant day, we even had a pint at the end of the ride.^_^

three wheels on my wagon
Well today saw another club run for our small but growing band, a late kick off to start with made slightly later by various events again work and family commitments kept attendance low but two new recruits should be adding to the numbers soon. A very new set of wheels and a loan bike meant some fettling was needed before we left the start. Also deep dish rims need new brake blocks if you are unlucky so a change of route to a Sunday opening bike shop was needed. This shop being the type that doesn't actually allow bikes in the show room. The events lead to an early but very welcome coffee stop and again still managing to sit outside (what a November) three mexican taches were again on show and as another club member says it was the stealth bikes on show today. A total of 47 miles was eventually completed on another grand day of cycling with a few strava PRs and some top tens for the carbon rims.

I've been feeling a bit 'off it' this weekend, not ill or sickening for anything, just that awful 'oh bugger it I can't be arsed to do fark all' feeling.
So this evening crept around and the weekend was going to end not with a bang, but with more of a splat. So wrenching my sorry apathetic arse out of the clutches of the sofa I went for a ride. This was it:

2 rides for me today. Really struggled to get on the bike after yesterdays 3 mile walk, but managed a steady spin for 10 minutes covering 2 miles. This afternoons session was a disaster, really lacked energy, forced myself onto the bike, 8 mins in left leg cramped up and I quit at 1.5 miles. Really not happy.
Scenery is rubbish too when your stuck on a turbo trainer in the house. Still, physio Thursday so hopefully he has some magic up his sleeve

Today's ride brought about another club run for our new cycling club: 4 Towns Cycle Club (4TCC).

Planned to start at 10:30 from our usual meet up point at the 'Boiler House' between Castleford and Garforth, we were delayed for about another 40 minutes after I had to do some adjusting to my saddle position on my new loaner bike and a fellow club mate left his phone in his drop off car and had to do some fiddling around with new deep carbon wheels (which look very nice I must say!).

Only 3 of us on the ride today, all sporting Mexican bandito style moustaches of 3 weeks for Movember, we set off on our planned route up to Harewood House. However, further wheel problems meant we decided to re-route and turn off from Aberford to head up to Cycle Sense in Tadcaster via Towton. Unfortunately this meant we hadn't avoided a short rain shower meaning my new (I say new, I've had it for 6 weeks but luckily not had to use it yet!) Castelli rain jacket got its first use!

Having suffered a nasty fall yesterday when riding solo, I was struggling early doors on the ride and found myself spat off the back of my 2 fellow club mates on the uphill on the way into Tadcaster so I was pleased for a stop at the bike shop!

I kept watch of our bikes through the camera on my phone ...

Once DC had bought some new brake blocks for his new wheels I nipped inside for a look around the shop whilst the blocks were fitted to his bike. I saw an offer on energy gels I couldn't refuse - buy one get one free! - so picked up a couple of gels for 99p!

Once we were all sorted we turned off up Wighill Lane and had a lovely coffee stop (sat outside believe it or not! And yes we are a week away from December!) at The White Swan in Wighill.

This meant further photo opportunities for our 'stealth' bikes!

After this we powered on towards York as we skirted past and turned off towards Wetherby, capturing a few top 10s and Strava PRs on the way which never go amiss. Although the fast pace of the latter end of the 47 mile ride meant that The Gravestone Man lost a pair of glasses out of his jersey pockets, which were subsequently crushed by a cordon of following vehicles! Lucky they were just £1.50 chemist specials rather than a £200 pair of Oakley's eh?!

Finally, we passed Wetherby and Bramham on our way back into Aberford before taking the longer, more scenic and hillier route home via Barwick-in-Elmet before we all parted ways in Garforth.

The weather held out for the whole ride, barring a couple of brief rain showers, which meant the 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday outing despite the chills in the air!.

As our new, small cycling club begins to get off the ground we all said towards the end of the ride how we can't wait for summer which will bring longer rides, warmer and less windy days, longer evenings, more sunshine and hopefully more club members on the Sunday outings.

New to cycling on a regular basis myself, having only got my first road bike at the end of August, I also can't wait for next summer! But for now, rides like today's with new found friends are a brilliant way to spend a Sunday morning and afternoon!

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

Lovely ride to Castle Ashby yesterday with BRCC. Miserable and grey, with occasional drizzle (that's playing up my nerves tbh) and head wind that made the first 30 miles feel like and endless drag. Rewarded ourselves with a long-ish stay at The Buttery, where disappointingly enough I had another egg-related craving.. Sad, I know!

Bedford River looks stunning this time of year..

65-ish miles all in. Not the fastest, but can't complain!! Winter is just about clocking the miles in, isn't? :becool:
