considering it's my 4th ride of the year and i'm an old git on a steel framed bike, that isn't too bad. i even managed to overtake some people today. loads of cyclists today, a few idiot drivers, but most were considerate, there certainly seems to be less squeezing than a few years back... this cycling lark may catch on.

the third and final descent of Broomfield Hill was done sans braking... i'm getting there!

had a lovely espresso at the pen ponds cafe. italian run, bella bella.

Should have done this afternoon's ride in the opposite direction - was caught out so had a headwind both ways today.
Rode west about a couple of hundred metres from the coast so had a light SW headwind.
Return leg headed east along the coast... with a stiff easterly onshore breeze. All good training I suppose ;)

Completed my first imperial century today with far more climbing than expected^_^ in under six and half hours(25.13kph average:bicycle: ).
161.92km with 1,951metres of going up(100 miles 1077.9yards with 6,400ft of going up) .
Was not expecting so much going up and at 100km encountered an unexpected cat 4 climb, the sort I do not like, 1km long average gradient of 10.4% with a maximum gradient of 15.8%, my legs did not like that:angry:.
Thankfully the last 20km was quite flat, the first 141km had 1866metres of climbing(13.25metres per km) .
My Garmin 800 did a grand job navigating me around roads I did not know, for about half the ride I did not have a clue where I was but my Garmin always did:hugs: .

Now it is time for a BBQ so I am going to stuff my face with lots of food and have a drink later to celebrate:cheers:, the Mrs. thinks I am nutter:crazy: .

Should add at about 100km after the tortuous accent of the unexpected short cat 4 climb I was caught by three roadies.
Fortunately for them they were going a different way otherwise I would have spanked their arses, NOT.

Cracking ride out today with @Mr Haematocrit a touch over 40 miles for me went for a tour around the Royal borough which included a couple of laps around the newly re-instated Olympic Rowing Venue at Dorney. A cracking place to cycle round apart from the 400 odd meters of intense head wind for some reason  ! Then took a swift schlep over to a Lochfyne restaurant near Ascot for a cracking lunch and a couple of tall beverages. Weather had proper heated up around lunchtime glorious :sun:chilling outside the restaurant watching the world and a gazillion motorbikes go by ! The journey back was the slowest i think i have ridden a road bike :heat: the food and drink tasted amazing going down sweating it out wasn't so pleasant lol. Good company good food and a very good way to spend a bank holiday  back to work tomorrow  lol

At the beginning of the year that sort of distance was just a dream for me to^_^, it was only a few years ago 150km in a week was a struggle.

Just back from a quick squirt on the old steel MTB. First ride for a few weeks TBH with one thing and another, but I thoroughly enjoyed my little self ^_^

Only problem after shooting around wooded trails and such, is I've got a hankering for another CX bike now, watch this space..........................

Today I rode the Fakenham 50 (and a bit). I rode with hubby for a lap of 50km (which turned out to be 55km) and then hubby went for a burger and a sit down while I rode the additional 22km lap from Fakenham to Walsingham and back in a loop. Walsingham was a bit tricky as it was wall to wall pilgrims. We were held up for well over 10 minutes on the second loop (only 5 mins on the first loop).
http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/275357471 Riding through the grounds of Holkham Hall was brilliant, no traffic what so ever, just other bikes.

My riding time was 4:01:56 for 49.12 miles. I was actually out some 50 minutes longer. We had a good 5 mins or so at each of the 3 food stops. Crossing some of the busy roads took an age too. At one of the last busy crossings we (about 6 of us) were there for nearly 10 minutes while caravan after caravan was towed past by disgruntled looking people.

At the second visit to Walsingham, I met up with 5 or 6 other riders (from a club in Gt Yarmouth) and asked what sort of pace they were riding at, they said averaging 18kph and I asked if I could ride with them. I rode along with a lovely lady, only been riding since May last year but had a rough beginning to this year with ops and stuff. I was feeling pretty knackered by the time I met up with them but the last 7 or so miles back with them was lovely. We had a long stop at the top of a hill as one of the chaps had chronic cramp, poor guy. It was really nice to ride with others. I would have probably ridden faster by myself and made myself even more knackered.

My first longer ride for a few weeks and I loved it.

I love riding through the grounds of Holkham Hall and use it a fair bit to get to Wells from my parent's house in North Creake. My favourite bench for a rest faces the rear of the hall under some trees, and raised slightly with lovely views. Hardly anyone goes near this bit as it's more than 100 yards from the car park! The sculpture at one end of the bench (below) is brilliant. It is the Earl of Liecester, and and I often stop for a chat with the old chap.

A lovely sunny 20 mile circuit here (yesterday) in the flat country. First, over to Lode village then out on the fen to Upware, then along Wicken Lode to a track called Harrison's Drove. The bridge over the Lode is a little steep to ride over. But it is about 10 feet above the surrounding land, a pretty high altitude for these parts- and you can see for miles.

The konik ponies at Wicken were close by as I pootled past.

At Burwell Lode bridge I chanced upon two fellow 'Lodes Way Irregulars' as JME of the cycling blog Keep Pushing those pedals refers to us. JME was one of them, and it was good to catch up with them as I've been away for some time. It's funny how we often meet up along our various circuits of the area. The number of cyclists out was amazing, with loads of folk out on their bikes along the quiet routes hereabouts.

I then sauntered home slowly, via a few farm tracks and byways, enjoying a helpful tailwind and the early evening sun and avoiding any hint of motorised traffic. 20 miles in about 3 hours or so- the good folks at Strava can rest easy tonight and the only segment I completed on the ride was a healthy chunck of Dairy Milk chocolate.
