Ken Laidlaw sportive today in the Scottish Borders. 168km with 2200m of climbing. Well pleased with my time of 6 hours 20 minutes.
Very well organised event with plenty of marshalls (including guys of motorbikes), mobile service vans and great catering at the feedstops and start/finish

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
Got up today and for various reasons had a bad anxiety attack...havent had one of those for a few years now. It freaked me out
so much that I had to run...so I got on the bike and rode a loop I had been wanting to do for a while and had
put into my GPS a few weeks back.
The final milage was 93 miles.
The route took me along the coast >shoreham>Fulking>poynings>hurstpierpoint>cuckfield>hawards heath>ashdown forest>
crowborough>hassocks>ditchling and back. I deviated a fair bit in th eforest as its so nice up there.

There were lots of free running sheep and cows in the forest, and on such a lovely day I was happy to spend time discussing
life with a few of them!

It was perfect weather, not to hot or cold, bit humid and I could smell tonights forcasted thunderstorms coming later in the ride.
In Hassocks I called into a shop for a drink...I asked the lady
"got any energy drinks?"
she replied..."red bull over there"
I said.." that will keep me up all night"
she laughed and said "that I'd like to see"
....we chatted while i drank a tin of mountain dew energy ...it was time to move on...lol!
I had the wind against me on the way out, so it blew me back. It's a priveledge to be able to ride like this
at my age, and through such beautiful countryside.
The longer the ride went on the more the anxiety left me...fresh air, exercise, sunshine, green grass, trees,
just what i needed today.
Right...time for an ice cream me thinks ha ha!

Heavens you were almost in the Royal Borough in Kent  well done.

Second ride out with Weaver Valley CC for me today, a mostly pleasant 55 miles bimbling through the Cheshire lanes, but the ascent of 'The Cloud' justs East of Congleton saw me almost wearing my lungs externally, I must get some more sensible gearing before I attempt it again, 42/25 is my lowest gear and it was just too tall for me, only sheer bloody mindedness kept me from getting off and pushing!

I got a visit from the puncture fairy a couple of miles before the cafe stop at Wheelock farm, and the rest of the WVCC riders swarmed round like a well oiled machine and had it fixed in minutes, just another of the benefits of group riding - thanks chaps!

100 foot total distance today.

Snip at £6000 but by god its good.

Did my first 100km today. I was planning to do 55 miles but 2 miles into my ride I realized I had forgot my helmet so rode the 2 miles back to get it. So, after riding the 55 miles of my planned ride I had done 59 miles in total and thought 4 miles more would mean I would have rode 100 km so I rode it.
Two main concerns with my ride:

1. I am trying to get used to clipless pedals. Getting my feet clicked in can sometimes be a little bit of a problem, getting out of them is usually no problem but there were several times where I had trouble getting out; I haven't crashed yet but have had some close shaves. Could this be because the pedals are new and need breaking in, or just the general rigmaroll of getting used to clipless pedals?

2. My computer on my bike; the part that fits onto the forks. There are very few roads that are smooth tarmac (especially in rural areas) which can sometimes lead to a bit of a bumpy or at least a vibrating ride on a road bike which loosens the part of the computer connected to the forks which soon leads to the magnet connected to the spokes knocking against it. The computer is a Smart 9.0. Anyone know how I can rectify this?

Today's ride didn't go to plan, though it was 'distance completed' just not in the manner expected.

EDIT: cause found inside the (rear derailuer) gear shifter and the cables I have are brake cables not gear cables, so off to a bike shop tomorrow. and not the same one that missed this less than 2 weeks ago when I took the bike in because I could not get the rear indexing sorted. - he probably won't be open on a bank holiday anyway.

If you need gear cables for tomorrow and can't get them because of the bank holiday, I have some spare ones in my parts box which you would be more than welcome to, I am only a few miles from Cuddington, so I'm sure we could meet up somewhere convenient if needed.

And well done on getting up Kelsall hill with only those gears, I wouldn't fancy attempting that!

A very hilly 67 miles for me today (6219 ft acc to the Garmin) taking in some of the Kinross sportive route in the opposite direction to which it is run. Through the Ochils up Dunning Glen, Dragon Hill, Pitmedden Forest via Glenfoot then over to the Lomond Hills from Falkland to Leslie - a welcome coffee stop at Lochend farm watching some gliders passing by. Home then via Benarty Hill and Cleish (wimping out on the Cleish climb). Quite pleased to get some decent miles in and prove to myself that i can still get up Dragon Hill. 17.1mph avg speed, so quite happy with that. Lovely cycling day, little wind and pleasantly warm.

My ride today before it becomes yesterday's ride
A very short but picturesque 28 miles with the Belles on Bikes and the forestry commission.
We had a guide telling us about the flora of the local forestry. Did not fall into the ditch today, @Ladytrucker did instead  We decided mountain biking is hard work :heat:
Highlight of the day: @DonnaHegarty fixing her own bike on the go, what a gal!
