23 miles this afternoon, an out and back trip along the B6357 towards Newcastleton. The wind kept changing direction so it felt like all 23 miles were into the wind:huh:. I was really looking forward to having the wind behind me on the way back, but is was not to be. Nice and warm in the sun, but decidedly :cold: at times. I even managed to ride through a steam bath - the road through Singdean Forest was gently steaming after a shower. It felt quite odd, but very warm as I cycled through, passing three cyclists almost hidden in the steam heading in the opposite direction. About 3000' climbed - I wonder what a flat ride is like:reading:.

Now time for :cuppa: and cake.

I rode around some quieter parts of the area today. I started off with one of my well trodden routes - Condover, Ryton, Longnor but then took the lane that goes behind the Lawley and past Blackhurst and Chatwall (highest point at 935' ASL) before heading to Church Preen and back via Acton Burnell, Pitchford and Condover again.

The lane to Chatwall goes through a couple of small valleys which are hidden away from the beaten track and are fairly unspoilt. The price to pay for seeing this pretty bit of countryside is a set of short sharp climbs. 2 get gradient arrows, the third doesn't, but probably deserves one.

I dropped my handlebars a couple of rides ago which it seems has messed up my setting for the saddle , meaning that there were a few stops for adjustment this time. I think I've sussed it but a another couple of rides will tell. I ended up having to move it forward by about half an inch. The plus side is it suddenly feels easier to put power through the pedals - would be nice if it helps the average speeds.

There was a small annoyance on the way home. Coming up to the junction with the A49 a car overtook without enough road to complete the manouvre and pulled back in while alongside, forcing me out of the right turn lane. Not sure if it was incompetence or deliberate.

Despite that it was an enjoyable hilly 23.6 miles done at an average 13mph.

Looking down the second valley (not named on the map) towards the Wrekin.

At Chatwall, looking towards the Clee Hills in the distance. The higher peak on the left is Brown Clee, with Clee Hill to the right of that range.

A pause for adjustment a bit further up the road. The saddle angle is a work in progress.

Little short ride to see if I could still ride a bike after yesterday's debacle. 5.87 miles round flat local roads with a huge 65 feet of climbing, which was about all I could cope with.
I can still ride a bike, I stayed in little ring all the way around - I say 'all' but you know what I mean. Today was a busy work day with over 2 hours of dog walking (clients dogs, mine got 40 minutes and are yet to go for evening walk) and a Westie who really didn't want a bath. All I really wanted to do was veg out on the sofa and watch the Tour. All that walking did not help my poor tired legs much but I guess it walked the stiffness out.

The evening was lovely though, absolutely gorgeous. I am glad that I went now.

Well done !
I managed 945kms as well as completing the Fizik 30 hour Challenge ;)
Got mine as well. After time off for injury during April and May I'm glad to back on it:smile:

Miserable commute in to work - rode off road again due to bad driving. Changing my ride in tomorrow to find a safer route.

Short ride home (8.5 miles) as I needed to be somewhere.

Younger bro texted asking for another ride out, so did a 21 mile repeat ride, and he managed it 12 minutes faster, and seemed to do it easier. He's improving well, but it was 'too easy' for me.

30 mile there and back to Bognor regis ...it was like riding in a wind tunnel on the way there...I was on the aero bars most of theway...then on the way back I came withing 1 cm of being wiped out permanently by an eezeyhaul lorry that passed so close it brushed my right arm in climping...bit of a brown trouser moment for sure...other than the usual wind of doom and near death experience it was just another ride to keep the legs turning.
