67 miles for me today, Newbury to Wantage, then to near to Swindon (not buy the most direct route), and back to Newbury via Hungerford. First planned long ride of the year and so much better than the unplanned 68 miler a couple of months ago:smile:

Hot 35 miles today, left the house too late with temperature climbing into the 90s. Ended fighting the heat more than headwinds. Every time I tried to pick up the pace, my pulse would rise and I would just start feeling over heated. By the time I got home the temperature was reaching 100.

Supposed to hit 103f today and I still have some gardening to finish today.

I plan on being out on the bike by 6am tomorrow just to avoid the heat.

Glad I don't live where you are, I suffer when it gets to 80f.

A couple of rides today, did 29 miles this morning ending at the LBS, watched a bit of the tour, came out with new bibs and jersey, did a 12 mile ride with the other half in the evening, she has been a bit under the weather and has not ridden for a couple of weeks, she wondered if she would be fit enough for club ride Sunday morning, the answer to that is no, so i'am doing the club ride without her, hopefully she will be fit enough next week.

Earliest start so far 4:30am, still dark and started off very misty, by the time I got to the top of my first cat 4 it was very foggy, maybe visibility down to 300 to 400 metres.
61.65 km this morning giving me a total for June of 1,771.42km or 1,100 miles:eek:.
In my early fair weather commuting days a few years ago 1,500 km was my yearly total:bicycle:

Unfortunately signed up for the Swindon Cycle Challenge which usually just June but this year ends on the 23rd of July, so 23 more days left:wacko:

Had a very pleasant 25 mile ride to my brother in law's house for a BBQ - one downside apart from the 18 mile headwind was the 'cyclepath' out of Pocklington towards Barmby Moor.

As I wasn't tanking along, and was slowing down before I got to the BBQ I decided to ride on the cyclepath as that stretch of road is known for speeding dickheads.

Sure enough a big BMW went past very fast - quite what the driver would have done were I 'in his way' is a matter of debate. Just before Barmby Moor I saw a car pulled over. As I got closer I saw it was off the road and totally straddling the cyclepath. I didn't wait for him to move it, I rode right up to his bonnet, stopped, got off and said, "Don't worry about blocking the cyclepath, I'll walk round". I then walked past and got back on,

It is wrong, but what would drivers' reaction be if I were to just stop my bike in the road, get off and sit down for a rest?

Up at 6:30. Out at 7am.
40 non stop miles over Downs, Ranmore & Box Hill.
2700 feet climbed
Back home at 10 = 3 hours dead.
All in beautiful sunshine with clear blue skies and before the heat of the day.
Now THAT is how to start your Sunday!

The same has happened to quite a few of the roads around here; horrible strength sapping stuff, & it hides all the potholes that they didn't repair before throwing that stuff down!

..oohh don't get me started on road surfaces...in Scotland in particular the roads were often covered in tarmac with huge uneven stones in them making the entire bike vibrate to the point where the GPS kept jumping out of the mount, not that I could read it anyway with all the shaking going on...this went on for mile after mile after mile after mile...result...one seriously bruised derriere...and a delicate derrierre at that I'll have you know lol!

The potholes around here are bad in town, but not so bad on the north side of th south downs mostly. But the ride around the west of Manchester recently near such attractions as warrington, Blackburn and scumsville, take my vote for the worst road surfaces, most aggressive drivers and unfriendly people in the uk that I saw on that trip.

Also why is it that they insist on running the slow down numpty driver rumbles stripes to the edge of the road, give us a foot at least!!!
[/rant please carry on]

Didn’t have a chance to ride yesterday as I was at a ‘stag do’ at Chester races. We had the last laugh with the bookies though. A friend had a good tip from a jockey he had met a week earlier, so £10.00 each was put into the hat for a £200 pound bet. We won £800, so a good end to the races.

Well that blew away the Saturday ‘Stag do’ cobwebs, 71km. Now for a nice lunch during the Tour de France coverage this afternoon!

80 miles for me today. Met up with some riders from the local club in Wilmslow and cycled into Manchester. Then pretended we were racing for 52 miles in the Great Manchester Cycle. It is good fun but I witnessed a couple of crashes, one of which involved a lot of riders, one of whom I knew. I suspect from the slings on the riders next time I passed there were some broken collar bones. I can't say I was suprised there were crashes with a few riders displaying no group riding skills whatsoever.
Weather was good :sun: although there was a fairly strong westerley headwind out towards Old Trafford and the revised route without all the rubbish they had around the Quays last year was good.
I averaged 23.3mph over the 50 miles which I was happy with as I didn't manage to hook up with one of the fast groups so was working in groups of two or three where possible.
Then rode back to Wilmslow with some of the club guys at a more leisurely pace. ^_^
