First proper ride on a fixed wheel for about twenty years, having converted the Sara to one yesterday. Went out round the block and did 18 mile. It was a tad slower than the new Cinelli or even the old Sara with gears on, but the grin factor was there. Hills are at a completely different pace on the gearing I have at the mo 54/16 but I am waiting on a 19 cog to give me the grass track gearing I will need when I get it on the track (minus brake) in Roundhay Park, possibly Monday?.This was an improvement on yesterdays ride on the Cinelli where I was nearly wiped out by a car overtaking and nearly hitting me head on, I polished his door mirror with my elbow out of politeness, but if he had been further over I don't think I would have been about to type this.

I've only manage short rides (10 miles) at weekends recently due to son needing to be ferried to athletics meets. Nothing on this weekend so ventured out for a slightly longer ride (22.5) this morning.

It felt good to be out for longer, loads of other cyclists all going in the other direction to me, including a friendly club run riding by Lasham gliding club. I hope the club member several miles behind caught the main group up.

So 22.5 miles, 1 hour 22 minutes and 447 meters of climbing, and sunburnt knees.

Messed up my ride a little today. Completely miss-judged the wind on the return leg result, 12 min short on total training time & difficulty in finding roads to make up the difference with training parameters. So the last 15min or so were a bit to interval training like.

Two objectives for today: Sufficient mileage to reach the 750km target for June, and get revenge on missing out on the hilly sportive last week.

I successfully achieved both, with a loop around Loch Katrine, taking in a number of the local climbs. I suffered a puncture at Kinlochard, enduring a midge assault as I changed the tube. The climb from Arnprior to TOTW has recently been resurfaced with that awful gravel stuff. It was annoying going up, but probably outright dangerous going down. Heading over Crow Road I picked up a nasty headwing sapping the rest of my leg strength, and I limped home at a thoroughly unimpressive pace, causing me to just miss out on my usual 25 kph target, Still the toughest ride I've ever done, so I'm pretty pleased with the effort.

The same has happened to quite a few of the roads around here; horrible strength sapping stuff, & it hides all the potholes that they didn't repair before throwing that stuff down!

Very quick ride today to see if the bike was ok. Since de-gunking the chain, it feels a bit rumbley as if the chain is rubbing on something. I looked down (a lot) but couldn't see any contact anywhere. OH was behind me and said that he was looking for what was causing the soft rumble noise but I think that he was actually looking at my bum. I felt the rumble more than heard it, it also only happened in little ring. It went away after a bit. There are mechanics at the start of tomorrow's event so I might get them to have a quick peep.
We rode to our LBS - who don't sell socks - and back again the longer route. Only 5.44 miles in about 25 minuts riding - nearer an hour if you count gossiping in the bike shop. Hubby yelled "Strava" at the bottom of the short climb from the bridge to our turn off, and shot off like a scalded cat. I decided not to bite but to pedal gently and catch him up when he ran out of steam. This worked quite well  He does not have strava on his phone BTW.
Bike has now been in the bath and is all shiny clean, chain lubed and numbers all over the place (2 on helmet, 2 on bike and one on cycle jersey).
In case you are wondering about the socks. I took my laundry to our Mark's house as we don't have a washer at the mo. Everything came back except for one sock, the left sock of my cycling socks. I only have one pair that I like & that fit properly. OH has been sent to Mark's house to retrieve sock (and to drop the dogs off for the weekend). They are NOT my lucky socks, they are my only socks.

Woke up feeling great, had a 5 a-side game at Keighley, 10 miles away, despite having a trip to the Dales planned for the afternoon, I rode there. Tore my thigh quadricep in the very first minute. Rode at 5mph crying like a baby all the way home.
