Its still windy ! headed North today past Towton Battlefield and not far from Lead Church eventually finding my way to Bramham, home of the Horse Trials, from there back South through Barwick in Elment with its Maypole dominating the top of the High Street, then onto Garforth and down The Lines old railway track to Allerton Bywater, then alongside Fairburn Ings with the wind behind me to join my outward route at Fairburn.
I thought the wind had a chill to it today but I still saw people riding in short sleeves & shorts.

3 miles to post a letter and check the CX is still working for it's first commute in 3 weeks tonight.
12 minutes of wind, rain, sun and fun

just a single journey today. over to my mum's for lunch (yet again - the bike almost knows its own way there now) and to install the new computer. Set out, got 1/2 mile from home, turned around and went back. picked up some warmer gloves and started again... great way to start the ride. Leg warmers were a must and stayed on for the entire 90 min ride. otherwise it was a nice ride out, other than a cyclist nearly hitting me as he did the classic "can't hear anything so it must be clear" into the blind turn that is our lane. He ran wide and fast (from a downhill), put somewhere between me yelling and diving for cover, he did apologise as he missed me. I meet him quite regularly so I suspect he will be more careful for at least a couple of days!
Made the mistake of 'planning' a new route to my mum's via garmin connect without going via google earth to double check the new roads. One of them was not particularly suitable for road bikes and I was very greatful for the new wheels with are the CX version of the wheel. I rattled superbly along the mud & rock track (pannier were making the noise) but the wheels were rock steady and the bike handled really well, however, I will be striking that road of the possible routes to my mother's despite it going passed 3 lovely ponds (any rain and it will need a tractor to get through, not a road bike!).
The surprise of the day came when my step-father was finally discharged from hospital. finger's crossed on how long he stays out this time, but he has to go back to the ward on a daily basis for IV antibiotics so I guess they will be keepign a very close eye on him (they are still threatening to remove his new hip if the AB's don't work).
Finally, after many hours fighting with the old computer - think back to the days of MS Office 2000 and when 80Gb hard drives were simply huge - I had to accept defeat. My OH has picked me up, my bike is at my mum's and I carry on installing the new pc tomorrow, then I cycle home... http://app.strava.com/activities/50821308

That 'old' computer is perfectly good, just put Linux on it.

nope, its not. That old computer is not good for anything anymore, except gathering dust or pretending to be a brick. the hdd is on its way out with numerous bad sectors and recovered file fragments, the RAM has memory errors galore, neither of the DVD drives work... luckily it was still functioning enough for me to connect a memory stick it already knew to be able to det the data off it. I distinctly hate having to recover data on a segment by segment basis using specialist software on my machine, but at least an 80Gb hdd would only take around 12hrs to map out rather than the 24-48hrs I have had on some drives.

I've just done my first proper ride since being ill (I did do about 3 miles the other day but that was just a test run). It was just one of my usual routes out to Acton Burnell and back.

It was also my first long run since fitting the Brooks saddle. Impressions.... hmmm, I'm not sure about it. I keep feeling like I'm sliding forwards all the time. I can cure that by tilting it back slightly but then it's not comfortable. Hopefully as it breaks in it will improve.

The ride went well to start with, I had a nice tail wind and was scooting along at a good pace. At about 10 miles I found I'm still not fully recovered from my illness and that there was no energy left in my legs. Then I turned back into a strong and cold headwind which made the ride home rather slow and plodding.

Despite this I managed 12.7mph average over the 18.2 mile trip. It's so nice to be back on the Raleigh after a winter on the knockabout bike.
