Riding through the heat and headwinds still in Kansas. It rained today but it was still silly hot even without a shirt.

I wanted to get out for a longer ride today but with the weather looking iffy I decided to risk a 30 mile route to the south and east of Shrewsbury which I haven't done for a good couple of months.

To start with I headed south via Condover (got rained on :rain: ) , Pitchford and Acton Burnell then went to Cressage before turning towards Wroxeter and Upton Magna then a tour through the Quarry in Shrewsbury before heading home. The threatened heavy rain and thunder arrived about 15 minutes after I got home which was fortunate.

86 miles, mostly off road on the Trans Pennine Trail, with 400bhp and skudupnorth.
Cracking ride with only a couple of dodgy sections, decent stop at a garden centre just off the trail, where bacon and egg, scones and coffee were most welcome :hungry:

Bugger ! I think my tyre must have attached itself to my waist ! Must try harder and lose that ! Cracking ride with great company as usual on a CC ride.

I rode to the seaside today in lovely sunshine - 3 miles into the return journey it all went to pot! Monsoon weather, savage winds, hail, thunder & road closed for a serious rta........ 102 miles in total & laying in the bath has never felt so good!

55 unexpectedly hilly miles today, which would have been fine except that T kept saying "this is the last hill, I promise ... oh, sorry, forgot about that one". :banghead:

My legs (and lungs) gave out on one of the aforementioned hills and I did consider walking, but I decided against it and instead had a break before setting off again. This usually works, even with the gravity-defying first few pedal rotations, but this time my legs burst out laughing and refused to cooperate, meaning I ground back to halt almost before I'd set off again. Unfortunately, I was so busy trying to avoid a clipless moment that I forgot to inform the bike of the abrupt change of plan, but only discovered this break down in communications when it used the chain ring and the back of my leg as an unusual (and not to be recommended) form of braking.

On the plus side, we somehow managed to avoid all the rain: we may not have cycled in bright sunshine but it could have been so much worse:
