Bit of a mad ride home tonight, definite increase in traffic due to the early kick off for England, made for some interesting filtering choices

Just the usual short commute for me. What was remarkable (or probably not ) I was expecting the traffic to be heavy in the morning with the end of half term and the crap weather but empty at night because of a certain national team kicking a ball; it turned out to be the exact opposite, the roads were relatively empty in the (quieter than last week) and busy tonight!

I managed to get out to ride the Long Mynd today and as my enthusiasm got away from me a bit, I ended up riding it lengthways and crossways.:addict:

I went up via Leebotwood and High Park and across the top via Pole Bank (1693 feet ASL) to the gliding club. While going across the top I changed my mind about my route and went down the steep bit to Asterton then over to Wentnor.

Leaving Wentnor I had a bit of a navigation failure; I took the second turning on the right instead of the third and ended up on the bridleway climbing over Adstone Hill. (Didn't realise for a while then thought I may as well carry on.) It was nice up there but with it being a rough grass track, having to use my lowest gear the whole way up and being annoyed with my mistake I'm not sure I appreciated it properly.

The bridleway brought me out at Coates Farm and from here I decided to climb back up on to the Longmynd using the road from Ratlinghope. When I got to Shooting box it seemed obvious that if I was going to ride up there twice I ought to go to the summit again:crazy:. So I took a small detour to visit Pole bank a second time.

After that I headed back via the Burway (always good fun:thumbsup: ) before heading back towards Shrewsbury.

40.32 miles at an average of 10.5 mph which I don't think is too bad considering all the climbing and the very slow route over Adstone Hill.

I did a Breeze women only ride yesterday evening. There were only two of us, I don't think the weather was much of an encouragement to new riders. Lovely ride though, just under 12miles and a good workout in the wind.

Nice little 50 mile ride with 400bhp and Hacienda71.
A stiff headwind for the first half of the ride was challenging, fortunately the expected rain only briefly troubled us.
Cafe stop at Jodrell bank, where the lure of the 'full breakfast' was just about resisted in favour of a bacon sandwich and coffee, a lot quieter and drier than the last time we were there on Fossy's 'fixed friendly' forum ride

We did the bulk of the ride before the stop so it was a wind assisted 15 miles home, with 400bhp consulting his post-it note crib sheet for upcoming Strava sections, where I'd be left on my own while those 2 sprinted off into the distance :hello:

Good to get a decent ride in, especially as the forecast wasn't looking too promising, 15+ mph average and home just after Noon.

Oh, the only spoiler was my puncture after only 1/2 mile

Went on a tour out around the Cardington area. I took the Hawk (knockabout bike) this time as I knew the lanes would be muddy and I have only just cleaned the Raleigh. There were plenty of other cyclists about for a change and it was a good ride (apart from the odd shower), until I had a bit of a disaster.

The road between Cardington and Church Preen School has some nice flowing downhill sections. On one of these bits I was doing about 25 miles an hour and as I approached a corner I realised there was something in the road right on the line I was about to take. The front wheel missed it but the back didn't. The rear end kicked sideways and there was a bang and a clatter as the object pinged into the hedge, followed by a knocking and shimmy which I instantly assumed was the back tyre going flat.

After coming to a fairly abrupt halt I found the tyre was still inflated but the impact had snapped two spokes.:cursing: There was no sign of the thing I'd hit - I can't be sure as I only saw it for a moment but I think it might have been some part that had fallen off a car.

With two spokes gone the wheel is now not the usual shape you'd expect, so I had to disconnect the back brake and take a fairly leisurely ride the remaining 14 miles home.

Time to raid the spares box again.:banghead:

27.7 miles at an average 12.3 mph. Cyclists greeted: About 15. Disasters: 1. Curses: Lots.

The Glue that binds us together.
A nice easy 20miles this morning, first time back on the road bike for 2 weeks, felt a bit twitchy for the first couple of miles, but then i have had a week of riding the mtb, soon got back into the swing of it and it felt good apart from all the pot holes in the roads, having recently got back from Holland were the roads are so nice, i feel like emigrating.^_^

The original plan was to ride out to Brixworth, but I got up looked outside at the rain and the wind, and decided on a ride to Daventry. Once the shower had gone over I set out, it was cold windy with constant showers, turning onto the Fossway at Eathorpe I was thinking of turning back, I continued and the weather improved and I rolled into Daventry dry after a hard slow ride. Leaving daventry I shortcut through an industrial estate to pick up the A45 through to Willoughby then then turned left to go through the lanes, Turning right in the village I encountered some unusual signs.
