#2 is not cycle obsessed like his younger brother, I had hoped that today we could all go to the Bike Show, but he dug his heels in & said No - I know which battles are not worth fighting!
But then he surprised me by saying lets go for a ride - He's not been out on his trailer since Sept...
.. So of we set in the direction of Shoreham & the Downs Link.
15 lumpy bumpy off road miles, was great fun - I had sort of forgot just how hard work it can be towing the trailer... Couple miles from home Cain decides he can't pedal anymore, so i'm left to drag 8 stone of child & trailer, my legs were starting to get the wobbles so I opted cut a few miles or so off our journey & take a short cut over the Tollbride then through the village, rather then carry on, on the rough path down to the coast..... about a mile from home Cains Trailer got a visit from the P fairy!! Rather glad she hadn't met us there & not somewhere up near Bramber.

Started young, and still going.

!5 hilly miles from Barnet then around Highgate and Hampstead taking in Swains lane, and North End Road amongst others. Got to get the legs up to strength

It was forecast -2degC, the met says it was -2.8degC and the beeb said it was -4degC  but when I woke up my outdoor thermometer only said -1.2degC (albeit my thermometer sensor hangs out the window and is 5-6ft of the ground), it was still and bright and the roads looked clear, so I made the cautious 1.6miles up hill (191ft according to Garmin) to the Glen Gates where the DCC meet and was delighted to see 8 other faces :becool: I'm a descending wuss and bad on bends (even more today) but there wasn't a slip (other than a chain slip) on the 65mile ride and after we stopped at the Cafe (Corierri's) it warmed up to 2 deg and became the perfect weather for cycling

An early start just as it was getting light (7.30ish) and a cold but very still ride North. No traffic to speak of and once past Wetherby and on the B roads I saw not another car, cyclist or soul until I was almost in Boroughbridge.
Frost covered fields overlaid with a thin freezing mist were a picture in the early morning sun. Flat/rolling roads made for a comfortable 71 mile ride. My orange juice turned into a slushpuppy.

Two (minor) offs and a bloody p ******e this afternoon:sad: ! nonetheless a wonderful 30 miles along the quiet lanes, frosty fields and canal paths of south Derbyshire^_^ and the chance to try out one of my Christmas goodies ....my new CO2 pump

A cool and bright 90 miles (5444 ft of climbing) with a mate, it was a little white at times and as we got to the top of the Tak Ma Doon Rd it was pretty Icy indeed thankfully the descent is pretty gradual and mostly on the main road, getting there was awkward though and a patch of black ice didn't help!
LOL, I forgot to say about 500ft up the Tak Ma Doon Road (halfway up) in Baltic temperatures we passed a bunch of bare chested but friendly neds (chavs) pushing a shopping trolley!

Chased a fantastic sunset back from town, nearly rode into the hedge several times as I was busy staring at it wishing I could paint / had remembered my camera. Bit cold though, had to do hand crunches to stop my fingers turning into unresponsive lumps of ice. :cold:

Mad, the lot of you!

Completely agree with you Arch, but I still go out for my fix on my fixed, habit, and I feel bad later if I didn't go out. My shortest loop is only 11 miles but includes a mile climb and a couple of other shorter ones. The temp really dropped as the sun was setting and I got wheel spin on a steeper bit as the roads began to freeze. We are all certifiable.

Still undecided !

Kids are at school, wife is at work and I can hear the bike calling me from the garage.

The sun is up, temperatures are still sub zero but set to climb this afternoon.

Barnard Castle - 48 miler ?.... Stanhope - 50 miler ?.... Consett (again) - 38 miler ?

Let you know when I get back

30 very chilly (with added emphasis on the hilly) miles, happily interrupted with a large plate of scrambled eggs and, once the sun came out, some stunning views on the way back down the hills.

I ended up on bastardised 56 miler that included part of the Stanhope route with the Consett route.

A very cold, but lovely trip that was unusually devoid of C2C'ers along the Waskerley Way, in fact I only saw one more bike on the high moors and that was a drop bar of some description (prob crosser), but I was busy picking my route through the icy bits and didn't take a lot of notice of it.

Check out the skitey bits above Waskerley Reservoir....
