72 miler. I took the club on a Mystery ride. I had to check the map a few times as the route was slightly mysterious to me too. But navigation went flawlessly and we missed the few showers that were about too. Excellent planning on my part (of course) ;)

Had a great run yesterday and I was really looking forward to getting out this afternoon. Decided to give some of the local hills a massacring, first one just out of the house 110m in 2km (5%), nice warm up but the run back down the main road was hampered by a very low, very bright sun so had to a take it steady. Next one 1km at about 7% was a struggle, the 3rd 1km at 6% was spoilt by some nob end throwing at tin of coke at me. Managed to hold upright but had to stop halfway up a hill that a granny killer at the best of times.

Got me just below the knee, after that I just lost interest. Completed the route about 25 miles but the low sun made me almost invisable to drivers, it made riding difficult at times and it brought out all the idiots.

Whoaaaa !!! its blowing a gale here.
16 ish miles commuting today, not many cyclists about, sensible beggars.
Even so, on the drops still managed to maintain a reasonable speed into the wind on the way home.

Funnily enough...not much traffic around at 5pm today. The last few days have been nightmarish for car drivers in Peterborough....but brilliant for me.

Windy yesterday, wet wet wet this evening.
Sods law, its been dry all day, starts raining 5 minutes before i leave work.
So, an 8 mile commute home in the rain which i dont particually mind although had to keep wiping water off my forehead that was constantly dripping into my eyes
Wrong bike today as well, shoulda took the winter commuter with guards, but you just dont get the same fun factor.

Have to give it a clean and some TLC tomorrow at work.

19 miles commuting today...chose the wrong bike two days running and got a wet ar$e on both occasions.
Yesterday, very very blowy all day and raining most of the afternoon, bucketing it down as soon as i'm ready to get on the bike.
Today, not quite as blowy, dry all day...................................................bucketing it down as soon as i'm ready to get on the bike.

Saw a very close incident tonight, cyclist riding with good lights, car at junction just pulled straight out in front of him. Squeel of bike brakes, bike swerved, expletives from rider, threw bike on the ground and you could tell he was thinking about running after the driver (who was going to get stuck in a jam 50 yards up the road). car driver knew it, and turned tail before the jam and went a different way. I hope its lesson learned for the driver...if only for my (and other cyclists) sake.

Otherwise, plenty of vim and pace while riding, thoroughly enjoying my extended commutes each day (its about all the riding i do nowadays)

19 mile night ride, not much slower than the last time I rode it in the day,
it's a very different experience though every unexpected undulation helps sharpen the ride, the view of the night sky & surounding area throw up new surprises & sights

night riding its erm, the new 'black'

Just commuting and 'general purpose' riding today. No great mileage overall today but just shot down the chinese takeaway (maybe a 7 mile round trip) for some chips and spare ribs.... finished with a can of beer  .
Got to stop eating...i'm eating for the sake of it at the moment.

short 30km ride down to gilmorton, would have been longer but my legs were rather sore after fridays commute - 36km into a 20mph headwind (40mph gusts) - took it out of me a bit but the weather was so nice I couldn't resist

Wow, 5000 replies

My ride today....
Day off, so after a lazy start (if i dont get out early, i kinda stagnate) despite the windy conditions, thought i'd set off for maybe a 35/40 miler and stop for a breakfast at one of my villages en-route.
Fat chance...winds far too strong and headed in the wrong direction to take my normal route, so detoured to make sure i had a tailwind homebound.
Jesus...10 or 12 MPH for the first 11 miles, winds quite brutal. Couldnt face the next 10 miles of headwind so modified my route again to try to shorten the ride and get some relief from the wind.
Battered sausage n chips at Sawtry then thankfully a good tail wind homeward.
23 miles  Seemed like a lot of effort and not much mileage. I do nearly 20 miles commuting most days.

20+ mph gusts according to the met office...and there were a lot of gusts...actually made me lean the bike as i rode. Not particually safe as cars overtook.

On the plus side, just outside Peterborough there were 3 Red Kite just floating above the road. Maybe 20 ft up...it seemed like you could just reach up and touch them. I actually uttered 'wow' as i stopped and just let them sit above me in the headwind. One more Red Kite over Sawtry. Everyone else seemed oblivious to it.

36 miles around the shores of Strangford Lough. What a beautiful morning and ride. No wind. Clear sky.
Stopped at my usual spot at Sketrick Castle. The lough was perfectly still - watched the seals while eating cake.
Not only that but I passed 2000 miles today since April. This cycling lark might just catch on.
Oh and scalped a lycra clad chap on something carbon - and me on my Galaxy with butterfly bars, panniers and baggy trousers.

It was the first time on a road bike since the 25th October, the weather was misserable but I had said I'd go to a coaching session with a mate; I'm glad I did though, it was fun; especially with the wind behind you on the A8. My garmin said I went 35.2mph on the A8 and I got to find a new hill (11%) on the way back
