Finally got a bike fitted with my homebrew rivetted tyres after finally finishing them so went off looking for ice.

Rode over to my grans to see her after she took a fall yesterday when I visited, she's not too bad so that was good. Left hers and rode up Lily Lanes to Hartshead Pike where I knew there'd be ice. The tyres didn't do too bad, I got up and over most stuff. They're not perfect, proper ones might work better but at least I'm not going to get over confident on these and they're an improvement on what I had last year.

All was going well until I made the wrong choice of route down and chose the rocky bridlepath which wasn't such a good idea with low pressures in the tyres = snakebite on the front. What was a worse idea was leaving my tyre levers on the side in the kitchen so had a nice 2 mile walk home. Bugger.

16 miles on my tourer with cross tyres on - along local bridleways and lanes. It was lots of fun, but very very cold - my bottle froze. It's taken me two hours and a hot bath to thaw out. When I checked the temperature for today, it said -8!! That would explain things...

Blinkingly very cold and a bit more too. 34 miler was just enough to prevent a complete freeze up. Basically a dunk in the freezer for as long as I could take. But nice to get some bright light and fresh air. 2 Little Owls (they must be hungry to be hunting in daylight) were fairly special too.

Limited to commuting at the moment, but managing maybe 15 to 20 miles per day. Not much snow here, but bitingly cold. -1C this morning, probably -5 with the wind chill. Cycle racks are unsurprisingly empty at work

Scalped a guy on a roadbike, me on my hybrid this morning...scalped ?...he was just pootling and i dont blame him. As a hater of winter, i'm surprisingly enjoying commuting in this weather, that said, felt lethargic this morning, heavy legged. Listen to the legs  , might be coming down with something so i eased off a bit.

It was -7c on arriving at work this morning --remained baltic all day and is now sitting at -5c and we are expecting a big fall of snow tonight! Should be fun going to work tomorrow and seeing all the funny looks-"Did you cycle in on your bike this morning?" Nobs!!!

35miles off 3000 for the year, did not seem a difficult target on my last ride on the 24th November, then the white stuff came, no not milk, SNOW!!!!!!!

Today was the day, had put my noblies back on my much unused (especially for it's purpose) rockhopper, today was 'the day'.

The A roads were clear and even B roads were passible, though my local 10 mile loop does not include much of either, a mile or two at best on a B road, the other's roads 'minor' or less ...

The strange example - the 'van' stuck / abandoned on one side of a hill, spot the road!

A real slog (but fun) today, managed not to fall off (strict instructions from mrs craigwend) but had to 'unclip sharpish' numerous times, this when ruts in the snow sent me not in the direction I was going.

A new version of paris-roubaix was encoutered numerous times, this with frozen tractor tyre tread in the ice /snow, glad of front suspension and big fat tyres, like riding cobbles.

The ride was nearly 70 mins, but hay there was that white stuff everywhere... and it's slippy

Last mile or two, the sun came out - well nearly ...

My ride today was a touch embarrassing. Set off from Chorley at 9.10 to meet up with my club - Ribble Valley. It's 11 miles to the meeting point and had a trouble free cold but sunny ride. Got to the last mini roundabout 200 yards from the meet point, turned left only for the bike to slide out from under me.

The car coming towards me turned right, passed me and pulled over. As I got up I waved a thank you and he drove off and pulled into the college car park drive and stopped. As I gingerly turned in the driver got out - it was the ride organiser who'd driven down to see if anyone had turned up!!!!

At least I had the moral high ground as being the only rider to turn up!!

just done my constitutional trundle on the trike, it is hilly so good opportunity for drifting on the ice.
nice and worm in my winter clobber but the drum brakes kept frizzing up at the bottom of long descents, what the heck how needs brakes.

How on earth do any of you guys and girls manage to stay on the bike for any more than 45 minutes. My hands are so cold, even with better gloves, 45 minutes maximum is all i can do.
Commuting for 30 to 40 minutes each way, each day is as good as its getting for me at the moment. TBF, i cant muster up the inclination for any more. I can't concieve how i'd manage to do anything like summer mileage.
Minus 7 this morning, roads were clear but paths were treacherous. 2 complete fcking idiots with completely frosted screens this morning...jeez, i wish i was a copper. Couldnt even see one driver and i was only 6 feet away.
First outing on the winter roadbike for a week and a half, and after today, i think its back to the hybrid again tomorrow.

Mtbing yesterday but this morning three of us ventured out for a spin, still icy and very cold, I couldn't warm up at all. managed to get about 35 miles in. Sun coming out on the way back warmed us up a bit and certainly made for some lovely scenery - bright sun over frosty white fields. Lovely.
