61 miles over quite a few "arrowed" climbs today. I'm knackered. We had a newbie out today. I suspect he'll be completely stuffed. Hope he comes back - I did say it was probably the hardest ride we do and not to be too off put.

Nice green leaves everywhere despite it still being a bit chilly at times.

Went out this morning. 15 miles of Somerset countryside and it was FREEZING. I wished I'd got my thermal socks back out. It drizzled as well which I didn't like much.

But I averaged 12 mph which is the best I've done over 15miles/ 25k for 12 years, so must be getting fitter again.

My first long ride ever today of 34 miles. Pretty much flat, apart from Lock rises, but a headwind on the way back made it feel like hard work. The gentle slope from Sowerby Bridge to Ripponden pretty much finished me off but I just about crawled up it.

I was worried I had pushed it a bit too far as my very first long ride was 16 miles a couple of weeks ago. Everything feels okay at the moment, just generally feel a bit tired. Fingers crossed I don't wake up crippled.

Average speed was only about 11mph which was a bit of a disappointment but I just don't feel confident going too fast with dog walkers and kids on bikes everywhere.

Le Tour of Gower today for myself and the Lardster. And what a glorious day it
was - well weather wise it was.....

Firstly the usual trundle down to Llanmadoc to tackle the Col du Brit, unfortunately
the Brittania pub was not yet open so straight up the hill it was...

We decided to take in some of the bays around today Gower so we headed off to Llangenith

after that it was over to Rhossili, one of the very famous parts of Gower:

Lard decided to have a quick nap proving that he can sleep standing up!

When he decided to wake up we were then off to Port Eynon, if anyone has ever been there you will know the cheeky little decent to the bay and the cheeky little climb out!
The best spot to stop on the Bay is reserved for disabled drivers. Lard efforts to
convince people he had terrible knee trouble was not fooling anyone..

Then came the pearl of wisdom from Lardy....... he said "i'm sure if we turn right at
the top of the hill we'll come out not far from the Compass Cafe" (where we had planned to put some calories back in). Well it turned out that it was the correct assumption, but he didn't tell me about the 1 in 4 decent and climb......

and to the highlight of the day...... we had gone about 100yds up the climb (did I mention it was a 1 in 4?) and I had had enough..... decided to get off and walk (it was really steep - honest). The problem started just after I clipped out and went to put my foot down....I turned accross the hill so I didn't come to an abrupt stop facing up the hill and as I went to put my foot down I put my right crank down which promptly clipped my left foot back in again . . .. yes I went straight on my arse!!! Between laughs Lard shouted "sorry - I can't stop" and proceeded to complete the climb. I could hear him laughing as I was walking up the hill.....
Refuelled, we then went over Cefn Bryn, Fairwood Common, Kittle and through the back roads of Mumbles to get to Limeslade Bay..

which is right next to Bracelet Bay which has the famous lighthouse...

Another coffee in The Junction Cafe on Swansea Bay then back up the Clyne cycle path home..

Lovely day.... 56 miles....stunning views.....one bacon sandwich.....sunburnt arms and
a bruised cheek....what more can you ask for???????

Well it was a lovely day as Fairweather has reported. According to Metcheck it was supposed to feel like 4c! Hence the long sleeves and 3/4's. I was roasting! Like a glass blowers a**e.

I'm glad Fairweather thought it was a trundle down to Llanmadoc, we'd not been down very much quicker before. Perhaps it was the rider who was in front of us most of the way down like a carrot on a piece of elastic. We'd reel him in, and he would suddenly put a little burst on. We eventually caught him up just at the top of Lanrhidian and saw he was listening to his iPod! Foolishness I say.

I was not napping in Rhosslili but looking at a very interesting knot in the fence.

In Port Eynon I was giving the great unwashed my impression of Jack Palance as evil gunslinger Jack Wilson in Shane. I thought it was very good.

I have to say I didn't want to mention the hill out of Penrice on the back road to Oxwich. As it had been a while since I'd been that way even I was a little bit shocked by the severity of it. 27% for most of the way up. Oh and wasn't laughing I was coughing through the effort. :tired:

But it as a fabulous day for being out on the bike. I think we are very lucky to have such wonderful riding so close to home.
