Just a 3/4 hour commute tonight...and my first off in 2 or 3 years :wahhey:;)

To add insult to injury, i replied to a post in commuting last night how the cold weather and ice isnt really the problem some people think it is.

Sticking to the road, my route takes in a couple of bus only sections with narrow entries. I always give the busses right of way and occasionally, if we're likely to meet at the narrow part, i'll hop onto the path and scoot round. Hopped on tonight...immediately realised there's sheet ice, gingerly slowed down......shhhhhhhh bang, straight on the deck and skidded on my bum for 3 or 4 yards:biggrin: Legs were all tangled in the bike.
A girl was stood nearby....i sat there laughing...'you alright' she said.

Yeah yeah, no problem.

Memorable for that, if nothing else.

Today was a riot, for some reason I got at 4:30 so I thought I'd do a spot of off-roading & leave early. The result was I was riding on frozen mildly churned up mud, there was enough texture to give you loads of grip but not enough to make it slow, great fun.

The white stuff was back again, (it never really left) had a day off yesterday & nearly had an 'off' on the ride, got stuck in a rut not the direction I wanted to go or needed to go, but a bit of nifty balance, unclipping a a lot of luck & I kept on.

Only 10 miles but felt like... erm a lot more, took nearly an hour, trying to ride on the snow as opposed to compact snow / black ice

Back to work tomorrow, a few night on the turbo beckons, a few too many hairy moments again!

when will it end?

Just got back from a ride, meant to be a 40 mile loop but it started snowing after 6 miles so made it a 15 miler instead... Bloody miserable.

It's been snowing here since about 6 am this morning. I went out about an hour ago and managed about 8 miles. At one point I was challenged to a wheelie competition by one of the local chavs. A couple of miles later I was going under some overhanging branches and got covered as they shed the snow of the branches. I have to say it felt quite exhilerating. Then I got a gob full of salty slush thanks to a pick up travelling too quickly for the conditions.

The temperature was probably only just under freezing as I was well toasty.

Cold n' boring, just logging miles on the commute, another 35 miles added to this years tally. It tried snowing about 3 times but no more than enough snow to melt & freeze over night, definitely the Marin & studded tyres are coming out tomorrow.

It was going well until at mile 13 I decided to take the main roads because the sideroads were needing MTB knoblies not Marathon winters... now I remember why I stick to the side road... F**KING W***ERS!

I haven't been out on a road bike since the Saturday before Christmas because of the snow and ice here :cold:. However I have ventured out on my mountain bike and that has had its moments. Turbo in the garage has been used a few times but I've had to resort to wearing bib longs, a jacket and gloves ;) the last couple of times as my garage is a bit on the chilly side

Is anyone doing any worthy mileage what with the weather ?..i know i'm not :becool:
It just seems like endless (shortish) commutes for me. This morning called for the hybrid, a couple of inches of fresh snow this morning...easy on the hybrid though.
The snow on the roads was kinda 'cakey'...there's been grit put down and just a few cars have churned it up into a mix of compacted fresh snow...and this weird 'cakey' mix.
Daren't venture off the main roads...dread to think what they're like in the countryside.

Nope.. I'm climbing the walls here.
My usual commute is 17 miles each way, I have cut this down to about 12/13 each way just to get home out of this freezing weather. It's tough going.

We have a few more cm's of snow today but itching to get on the bike just to pop to the bike shop just to get out of the house and on the bike
