Set of at 10 in icy foggy conditions for prearranged meet with mates had rode about half a mile and already had a slip.received. text from mate for slipped over on his drive .So ride abandoned .any way after two hours fog began to lift so time for second attempt. Left home at 1230 in fog rode 4 miles to meeting point where it was lovely and sunny and 10 degrees warmer nice 15 mile loop around swithland and wood house with a bit of climbing mate was riding his new crosser bike and first time in clipped pedals (no clipped in moments :giggle:). After leaving mate I headed home and decided to attempt warren hill ,a hill I'd only attempted once before and failed to make it up in one go must be getting fitter as this time straight up non stop:biggrin: any dropped into newtown linford and the fog returned and the temp dropped so rode back home in thick fog strange thing this weather.

Middleton hall the destination, 47 miles the journey, I got up and looked at the ice and freezing fog and abandoned the planned ride to Banbury, instead I opted for a mostly main road ride to Middleton Hall. I rode across Coventry then turned onto Hockley Lane and headed for Meriden, when I got the other side of Meriden I crossed the A45 and headed out through Maxstoke, no Golfers on the course but plenty of Deer, Shustoke and Whitacre Heath, past the Kingsbury Water Park to Middleton Hall, conditions weren't to bad, I had to walk out to the main road, as my road was unridable, thats normal when its below freezing, I had a little scare turning off the roundabout onto the bottom of Broad Lane, sheet ice on the roundabout exit, I managed to catch the slide, and even on the main roads there were a couple of places where water had run of the fields and left fingers of ice across the roads, needed treating with care, the freezing fog cleared quite quickly leaving bright sunny cold conditions. I came out the Cafe to find that the fog had returned, not freezing this time and most of the ice had gone, I just retraced my route back into Coventry. A ride of two parts this morning, on the one hand it was nice to be back in the saddle, but on the other hand my lack of pace and fitness was cause for concern, I know two weeks off the bike will have an effect but most of it I suspect was caused by the before Xmas tummy bug, if that is the case then it took more out than I thought and I'm now on the comeback trail.

Have you done Beacon Hill? if you do it starting from Quorn you can have what I think is the only Cat 3 climb around here.

Fair play to those of you braving it today. I did have a ride planned with @Rickshaw Phil, around the lanes this morning, but one look outside at the Minus 4c temperatures put pay to that and we did a walk around Adstone Hill in South Shropshire instead. Glad we did, as lots of black sheet ice on the lanes which made it tricky standing up in places.

South Shropshire takes some beating at times.
