Short ride this afternoon to stretch my legs. Took it easy due to knee problems 8-( quite nice to just pootle along - rather than commuting or out on the club run !

Went along the Westerleigh Greenway to the Oil Terminal a lovely off road trail which will eventually link all the way to Yate.

18 miles out on a usual run East of Ipswich.
Encountered a cycling lesson at Bucklesham - one of the teachers yelled at me to 'Go quicker! Go quicker!'. Made me laugh.

At Falkenham I had to stop to take this.

And, then, just around the next bend this vista looking towards Old Felixstowe greeted me. (I'm going to have to get a better camera to do justice to sights like this.)

At Nacton, I had a rather large deer trot across the road in front of me. Couldn't get to my camera in time and the way it nonchalantly looked at me it seemed to know it.

I was rather indecisive this morning, couldn't decide which bike or which route. I was seeking a flat run, and given the recent rain figured the towpath would be a bit hit 'n' miss, so in the end opted for road bike. By 0930 the sun was making an appearance, but it was still chilly enough for longs and a jacket with full gloves. I took it nice and easy out through Thorpe and into Chertsey, giving the Audi tw*t a piece of my mind for pulling out on me at a roundabout down Chertsey High Street:angry: Lots of bikes out today, decent group of the London Dynamos went by in the opposite direction near Chertsey Bridge, not hanging about as usual. Following one of my normal routes I ended up on Dockett Eddy Lane for my first photo stop.

I was struggling to get the top of my legs warmed through, so the next few miles to Walton Bridge were completed at a higher pace which worked really well, and as I passed through Walton towards Molesey I felt much better. It's a bit of a featureless slog on the road from Walton to Hampton Court Bridge, other than a few of the water pump stations which I may have posted before. I paused at Hampton Court Bridge for a quick bite and snap.

All very nice in the sunshine. A quick look at Google maps offered an alternative route for me through Bushy Park into Hampton Hill avoiding the A308, so I headed into new territory, and very nice it was too. Another Royal Park for me to pedal around, how very thoughtful:smile: My newbie-ness soon caught me out though, and I discovered the road I wanted to follow was 'closed to cars Mon-Fri'. Now, not wishing to create the wrong impression, I turned round and re-traced my steps back to the A308. On the plus side it did give me an opportunity to snap the Diana Fountain, the photo does not do it justice.

Heading back through Hampton the road narrows, and I had a big tipper truck behind me all the way. Not a negative, he stayed at a decent distance and made no attempt to overtake. I gave him a thumbs up and when we stopped at the traffic lights made sure I thanked him, he seemed pleased:smile: I'd email the company but can't find an email, T. Fowles it was. Made up for the Audi idiot anyway...
Straight run home from there via Lower Sunbury,Walton & Chertsey.

27 miles for me today. So that makes 2023 miles for the year, which means I've hit my target:wahhey::wahhey:

With the issues you have had to cope with this year, that is a fantastic mileage!!

Well done! :bravo:

I'm confused though - surely that road being closed to cars was a good reason for staying on it, not turning round and getting off it?

I had a shorter run this morning as I needed to get back in time for a conference call. Did 16 miles only, but no wind, flat calm river and it was cold!

Garmin read 1.5 C going past the airport.

One of those days when everything just felt smooth. No close overtakes, I wasn't pushing hard, averaged about 16 mph and just enjoyed the scenery. If only it was like that everyday. Bike is filthy though - so much mud about.
