Well, I'm not long in from a 26 mile ride.

It was very different from my usual ride. I was asked to go out, and told the rough route we'd be taking.
I knew the area but didn't realise how hilly it would be!!

We headed through Bo'ness, and up towards Blackness Castle on the Forth.
Then along towards South Queensferry (but didn't go all the way along).
It was starting to get dark, and by the time we looped around and into Linlithgow from the Broxburn side, it was dark.
Luckily I had planned for that and had lights with me.

Most of this was on roads and the traffic was building up by the time we hit Linlithgow.
I got home about 6pm, had food and a hot bath.
I'm feeling quite pleased with myself as I don't 'do' roads and even although I was quite anxious at times, I managed it.
My knees are already aching from all the hills

I only took two photos - halfway up a hill that never ended! Cemetery hill will look like a walk in the park after that one!

I had to stop half way - that's my glove in the bottom corner!

But what a view...

I was going out for a ride tomorrow but it's Tai Chi class so that will probably be enough!

NIce ride in to work this morning in warm (for the end of October) conditions, which was completely ruined in the last half mile when I was close passed on a dead straight, wide bit of road (less than a foot clearance at at least 60mph :headshake:). The moron saw my gesture of frustration and immediately stopped to ask "what's your problem". My response was unfortunately not diplomatic and certainly not suitable for CycleChat and he ended up following me onto the estate to carry on the argument. Apparently I can't complain about his driving because he didn't "actually hit me or run me off the road". Words were exchanged and I don't think either of us came out of it well, but I think I won the moral high ground when after repeatedly calling me names he offered (but failed to carry it through) to get out and "settle it right here". How childish!:thumbsdown:

For my return journey the forecast rain started at exactly the specified time, but fortunately eased right off after the first 3 miles and didn't restart again until near the end. I did have to contend with a fairly strong headwind though (17 mph according to the Met Office) which typically had only perked up while I was travelling. There was loads of traffic rat running (unusual for a tuesday, 'til I remembered it's the Shrewsbury vs Chelsea match this evening) and I had the pleasure of filtering past a long queue at Atcham. More close passes on the A49 which I refrained from being stroppy about this time coz I don't want any more rows.

Approaching the old bridge at Atcham this morning, while I was still enjoying the ride.

Up at 6am this morning to complete a kitchen spruce up I started yesterday, new worktops, sink and taps...finished at about 10....hmmm, i'm fired up with nothing to do till lunchtime, so out for 50 minutes hard pushing round my old loop in town.
The stamina's not there but the speed is when I get out the saddle and honk away, nice to push hard in my own little way, even at 56.

I hadn't been on my bike for a few days and as I'm back to work tomorrow I decided to go out today. I knew rain was coming but hoped I'd be home before the worst of it.

Thought I'd go to the other side of Preston then return home. About 34 miles altogether so off I went in my shorts as it was mild enough. Five miles in the the rain came belting down.

Soon enough I was soaked but carried on and when I was as wet as I was gonna get I quite enjoyed it. Lot of water on roads though with leaves blocking the drains. Got home as it was almost dark, soaked and smiling.

Did the Red route up at Dalby Forest today - 22ish offroad miles in 4.5 hrs riding time.

This is the first time I've done a proper "trail" as such with technical bits etc, and absolutely loved every minute of it. Being a bit tight I parked the car in the village of Lockton and cycled a couple of miles in to join the trail rather than paying the £7 charge on the Forestry toll road. Feeling a tad guilty that I've not contributed anything to the upkeep of the trail though.
My ride was the source of some amusement to a small minority of the "full suspension & Oakley sunglasses" brigade who got held up behind me on some of the narrower sections, as I was using my 20 year old Spesh Hard Rock Sport which has no suspension and is fitted with full mudguards, rack and bell. I tried some "big air" on a couple of jumps early on, but worrying creaking sounds from my rear end made me calm things down a bit as I didn't fancy trashing a wheel miles from anywhere.
I could get hooked on this trail riding mallarky, so I'm currently browsing full suspension MTB's on Wiggle for my next N+1, although SWMBO who has just glanced over my shoulder to see what I'm up to has categorically said "no" to any further bikes

Well decided I should go out even though the roads were wet and the temperature had dropped a lot. The stars were out and the wind had calmed down. So of I went. Within a couple of miles I hit a puddle which mostly soaked my right foot lol. But I battled on. Had a lovely ride in general which was only spoiled on 2 occasions when I really went for a couple of sections on strava but had to bale out due to catching cars up...doh.

Managed a nice 14.4 miles dressed perfectly, averaging 16.6 mph.

Hopefully I can get out tomorrow night too as the weather is looking promising.

Wasn't driving a Black Insignia was he?! There are some real knobheads on the roads in Shrewsbury at the moment. Do be careful though
