Phil, maybe it's time to learn to let go of your frustration at close passes before an incident like that gets nasty? I only mention this because you talk about close passes an awful lot in your ride reports, which suggests you're still dwelling on them. I don't think it's healthy though I appreciate that this is just my opinion and I may have overstepped the mark.
No, fair comment - I wouldn't say I dwell on them, it's usually just something to mention. This one did particularly annoy me though and looking back at what was said and done I think he may have done it deliberately to get a reaction. I shall have to just keep it to myself in future.

In contrast to yesterday, today's ride was all sweetness and light , if a little on the cold side. I took the longer route in to work (lots of cycle lanes off the road) and met lots of people out walking and a few cycling who mostly seemed quite chirpy today.

By the time I left work the weather was misty and drizzly as well as cold so the waterproofs came out. The drizzle meant I had to keep wiping my glasses at regular intervals and it got quite difficult to see with the oncoming headlights - I was glad I to be repeating the outward route so was on cycle paths again by the time it got dark enough to become a problem.

My ride into town today would have been forgotten out of hand as mundane and unremarkable until the last mile when I spotted something out of the ordinary. At first I assumed I was seeing things since my glasses were fogged up and smeared from the annoying drizzle but as I got closer it became apparent that my eyes had not deceived me. There really was a man out for a walk with three terrier-sized dogs on leads and a free range tortoiseshell cat!

My sister told me that when she takes her border terrier out for his evening walk, quite often one or both of her cats walk alongside them! Her neighbours think it is really funny.

there is a couple around here that regularly have their cat with them when they take their dog for a walk. The cat simply follows of its own accord and always has done. It usually does a disappearing act when other people turn up, but if you are observant enough you will see it each and every time.

A heavy load on the bike, the skip was the only thing nearby that would take the weight.

Route 44 an old railway track into Didcot.

My bike is leaning against what is supposed tp be a bike rack, my bike would not go in either way.

Back along the track, what's left of Didcot power station in the distance.

Lovely warm day today, out in shorts and tshirt ....and no helmet.

Just the usual commute - over to my parents' home to prep up for baking my Christmas cake tomorrow... (I don't have a suitable oven, so use theirs only the cake takes an eternity to make and even longer to cook, so it is a 2 day event...)
Nothing really happened on the way out except for the world thinking I was mad - it was too warm for anything other than short sleeves. 18C on the way out, 19C on the way back! :headshake::heat:

One the way out I spotted some nice colours in a hedge so stopped to play with the camera (it was one of those dead leg days and the camera is a really good excuse!). Prep done and cake ready to make tomorrow, then home. Better coming home with a slight tailwind but it was still so warm... strangely I met no other cyclists in short sleeves and everyone of them seemed to think I was odd for not being in multiple layers and or waterproofs (it wasn't raining, just overcast).

So just the usual 70km albeit rather slowly... http://www.strava.com/activities/213522898

Edit: just remembered one thing that did happen today. I saw a live stoat. It came close to not being a live stoat... I only just missed running it over, but it was definitely a stoat (black tail tip) and was less than 500m from my house!)

I hate to tell you this, but it was running around in a frantic state looking for its partner. Unfortunately, you saw its partner dead in the road yesterday ...:sad:

ahhhh, someone actually reads my posts.... :hyper:
probably looking for a parent... it was so small that I mistook it for a weasel at first, but too large for a weasel, slightly the wrong colour and had the black tip to the tail... but there is a pattern isn't here...

I read everything on CC! (I don't really, but I do follow certain favourite threads, including this one.)

It makes me realise that I don't know the difference between weasels and stoats, or whether they are related to ferrets. I feel a Wikipedia moment coming on ...

weasel - small (very small), much redder tend to disappear down mouse sized holes. (used to have family of them in our garden at our last place.)
stoats - larger, black tip to tail, browner than weasel and can kill and carry a full grown rabbit...
related to ferrets - Don't know. I will leave that to you to find out.
