I just had time for a quick ride out around the villages after swimming along the A14 through Cambridgeshire late yesterday evening/night. Blimey did it rain! I'm glad I was in the truck and above water level!

Never mind, I was back home and in bed by 02:00 so I got the chance to take advantage of the sunny, but windier than I expected, weather this morning.
I worked out my direction so I would get the wind over and done with first, then an easier ride back. Why doesn't that ever work out!

Great to get out for a while before I go to work in about an hour. Boooo...

Only 22 miles, but several PB's on some of the hills on the route and good to get some miles in today as tomorrow morning isn't looking good so far!

A Kangeroo route today (look at the map http://www.strava.com/activities/177648670)

Got up at 5am after being woken a fair bit due to heavy rain during the night. Luckily the roads seemed fairly dry so I set off on the road bike with the intention of knocking off the August imperial century at 05:30

Quick loop out of Leicester into South Wigston and Wigston and out to Billesdon and the only real climb on the ride, then turned south to Kibworth and had my first taste of the wind, kept heading roughly south to just short of the Catthorpe interchange (M6 M1 junction) and then a turn north to go through Lutterworth and then a north westerley direction to Market Bosworth, around a few of the villages out that way and then straight back to Leicester.

103.4 miles in total, saw loads of people out on bikes and I scalped everyone going in the same direction as me ^_^ completely and utterly knackered now, very heavy legs and that wind was hard work.

Very good.
We need to start a "who can do the best ride line on a map" thread.
Double bonus points for phallic symbols. But a kangaroo is up there!

I was going to head out early, but I decided to let the flood waters of yesterday subside! There was a car macarooned on the A428 through Hardwick...

Today's route took me out to Knapwell, Elsworth and up to Graveley where there is a wind farm, like or loathe....?

I then crossed back over the A428 and went through the village of Mordor ( I used to work there and have nothing but unhappy memories, but it's still good enough for a ride!"

Out towards Waresley the countryside is rolling and arable, not a cow in sight!

I rolled on to the delightfully named village of Gamlingay then turned on the quiet road to Hatley. There is a very posh estate there, I've been told it's owned by the Haven Holiday man....lucky him!

A bit too..... Well, bling for my taste!

From Arrington I came up the A1198, up hills, yes hills, in cambridgeshire! I was going to turn for Old Wimpole, so signalled right. I could hear a fairly large engine behind me, it was a horse lorry, and vehicles were approaching from the other direction, so I pulled into the verge to let them all through without me slowing them down. Once they were gone, after looking both ways like a good boy I scooted out to make my right turn.... "beeeeeeeep!" Said the BMW soft top that must have been doing 80mph up the hill through the shade... "Go and funk yourself" muttered Dave. Ihe wasn't there when I looked. Arse!

Then I made the ascent of Barrington Hill from the Barrington side, not done it that way for ages. It's harder this way, but those of you in more hilly areas would wee yourselves with mirth!

Barton, Toft and home again. A blowy 47 miles.
I'm out on a short ride with the queen after lunch, she'll like headwinds....

Enjoyed a very windy 70k ride out with HA FOX Jaguar of york as part of the Ride like a Pro competition, was a good ride with brilliant support and organisation. Though not on closed roads the full liveried Sky Team Jag did a good job of blocking the country roads to slow oncoming traffic  Not sure riding the touring bike was the best idea in a 'pro - peloton' but certainly a novel experience.

Highlight of my ride today was a very low flying Lancaster, clattering overhead, coming into land at EMA

Just got back from a quick 20 miler up Jackass Lane and back home through Bromley Common, West Wickham and Beckenham. Was feeling chuffed with Garmin showing a 17.3 average speed but when uploaded to Strava I was brought back down to earth with a 16.9 ave, anybody know why that is ?

You're slower than you first thought......?
Different satellites?

Jackass lane sounds great!

Just got back from an hour or two's pootling round the middle of town, which has all been shut off for bikes. Joined the embankment at Blackfriars, went off-piste as far as Tower Bridge, then rejoined the main route back to Westminster, then home. All very amiable and easygoing.
