Nice relaxing recovery ride this morning, 40 miles in a little over 3 1/4 hours in cool & calm conditions. Not much wildlife about which made a change from yesterday.

:rain::bravo::bravo::rain::rain:(yesterday) 64 miles / 103km ; Big G sportive ; http://big-g-sportive.co.uk/routes/big-g-100km/

This route is ideal for the rider looking for a challenging and scenic day enjoying the spectacular views and rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. Using the first and last 40kms of the longer route it misses out the middle third but still packs 1350 metres of climbing into its 103 kilometre route. Featured climbs include Life Hill (Sledmere), Fimber, Thixendale Wold, and Nunburnholme.

time = eventually ...:blush::blush:
punctures for the group of 3 = 3 :sad: - even got one through my durano-plus (Kevlar) - which I'd left on due to 'conditions ':surrender:& vast amount of flint washed onto the route

wetness , ironically just outside of the village of Warter; that's what happened :rain::rain::rain::rain::rain::rain::rain:

@ColinJ - if I'd not got my GPS I'd have got lost; one of the other two riders I rode with at times had to stop and ask people. Also, coming out of Bridlington there were two stragglers who were way off course.

I didn't see @Steve H - Steve, if you were there and I missed you, sorry. I was in my usual Ravensthorpe CC jersey but ended up moving at a fair pace and was the first back, although at the Water's Edge Visitor's Centre stop 1/3 out most other riders had caught up.

Sorry gents. The threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms meant that I wussed out. Couldn't stand the idea of 12 hours on the bike soaking wet. Kudos to @DCLane for his unwavering determination to get out (or ignorance about the weather forecast!)

Here for rides.
Various younglings at Chez Collins ensured my mood was not at its best first thing. Then everyone else dropped out of the planned ride to Box Hill. Forced myself out, plan A wrecked by a temporary road closure due to a cyclist being taken out by a car, it seems, plan B thwarted by a road closure for road works, then my Etrex started rattling and when I stopped to see what was going on I somehow turned my ankle!

Bullied myself for two hours and covered just over 50km including Leith Hill. Surprised at how much my avg speed has picked up in recent weeks when riding solo but today was a mental trial.

Well, I guess I earned my Sunday lunch if nothing else.

Started badly by smashing my knee into my bike during over-enthusiastic tyre pumping. Fortunately the bike was fine.

I'm off to a BBQ this afternoon so I planned a short but slightly brutal ride "The Tour de Roaches". 30 miles, 3000ft ascent. It did involve some off-road parts when I had to push the bike but the worst was the greasy roads. On one rapid descent I chickened out of a nasty turn at the last minute which resulted in a rapid ascent of a verge and stopping just before a hedge. More elephant than elegant. How I laughed (after looking round to make sure there were no witnesses). Anyway much fun was had. The hills seemed quite easy for a change and it was cool out.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
@Steve H - I'd seen the weather forecast but chanced it since the rain should have been going away. Basically it started with showers and then turned sunny with an occasional thunderstorm. I was dry/slightly damp pretty much until 3 miles from the end.

Local Open TT this morning only 10kms from home so cycled from home as part of my warm up. The temperature was already 20 degrees when I left home at 8:15.
Rode out along the A432 thru' Coalpit Heath & skirted around south Yate before reaching the Village Hall in Iron Acton, a relatively small field for this new event ( 35 riders).
The course has recently been adjusted, starting further up the Wooton Road & turning at Charfield roundabout.

Good conditions but I was unable to get a PB :sad: 24 seconds down with a time of 26:04. But did manage to beat my Vets. standard time !
To put my effort into context the winners time was 21:57 ................. :eek:

Great coffee & cake back at HQ then a gentle pootle back home via Winterborne.

First ride with Kingsway Cycle Club, had great ride with good bunch. My first ride with a group, much better than being on your own. Thanks to everyone for all the pointers on the way .

Doubled my longest ride distance and really pleased looking at Strava with my average pace too.
Looking forward to next week .

Didnt quite manage to get to brighton for breakfast as slept in so decided it was ditchling beacon and back. Weather was cloudy to start and then just got hotter which made the mile plus ramps on the way back testing they seemed to come frequently. Got to the bottom of the beacon and refuelled was going into the unknown having never ridden it before and was lulled into a false sense of security when i saw ridders come down it and turn straight back around and attack it again. So off i set which i found out was with too much gusto and slowed 3/4 of the way up was aided by someone passing me ( thank you, even if i estimate you were 15 yrs older than me, putting you in you 60's!!!! ) and telling me i was nearly there it spurred me on and even picked up the pace. Beautiful views at the top. All in all a gd day 56.6 miles done in 3hrs 39 mins , 15.5mph average and 2806ft of climbs with just the one 10 min stop for more water and a tracker bar ( think i was about 17 the last time i had one of those ) . 135 miles for the week. Rest day tomorrow to cut the grass:angry:
