Which one was that? On my doorstep and I didn't know about it....
@cosmicbike it was one organised by F3 events, called the longest day sportive. Not the best organised event, they seem to concentrate on triathlons. But it was nice to cycle some different roads and do some bigger hills.

Seems like F3 events haven't looked around, at 55 miles it would be one of the shortest sportives I've heard of, they (sportives) tended to be 80+ miles when I rode them in Kent/Surrey area.

Hi all,

Friday........16miles..no pics
Saturday....16miles..no pics
Today.........18miles..2 pics.

The pictures are about half hour into my ride, they feature Hadlow road station, which has been preserved in its original state, the old railway line now forms part of the wirral way cycling track.Sometimes use this track in the winter time. When I have another ride past here , I will take some photos of the interior, there are toilets you can use aswell , just in case you get caught short.

Early start for me, and aimed to get out there and do some laps of Deer Park to build confidence following a couple of rather painful rides recently. Fair old headwind today, and had cooled off quite a bit so ended up in longs and waterproof top, just in case. After pushing through one of my 'mobile' pains after just 0.5 miles the ride became really quite pleasant. First lap round the park saw some deer very close to the road which was nice, and just after the Copper Horse a stag ran across the road in front of me, closely followed by a red kite which hovered just of to the side of the road. A wonderful sight, so I stopped to savour the moment, of course forgetting that I was clipped in. Cue a rather undignified splat onto the road, which saw me on the floor laughing at my stupidity:laugh: Fair play to the couple on their bikes who stopped to see if I was OK, other than a grazed knee the only damage was to my pride, and it gave me a different pain to think about anyway. After a bit of climbing round the park I ambled over to Obelisk Lawn for a coffee break, and this was the cue for my 2nd amusing incident. Couple of ladies walking an old-ish looking golden retriever which I was admiring, one of them stopped, stared at me and said 'Oi!'. Apparently she though she knew me and was a tad embarrassed. I reassured her that I was perfectly accustomed to strangers shouting at me in public, and she continued off with a giggle. So far the weather had been kind, but on lap 3 of the park a few spots of rain quite quickly turned to a torrential downpour, the skies darkened to the point that I put my night riding lights on, the thunder & lightening started so I aimed for home. Zipping down Middle Hill & Egham Hill reminded me that I must put different pads into the brakes, the stock 105 ones are rubbish in the wet!
Got home, emptied the water out of my shoes and enjoyed a nice cup of hot coffee. 28 miles, and 1100ft of climbing, best I've managed for a few weeks and a great confidence booster.

Short 10 mile recovery ride this morning, started pouring with rain 5 miles in, but I had a tail wind for the last 5 miles. It ended up being a bit of a sprint to get back home aided by said tail wind, so much for recovery.

Due to a fairly late finish at work last night/this morning, I couldn't be bothered to get up when the alarm went off at 07:30, so it was just gone 9 by the time I got the bike out. It blowing a hooley but not raining (yet!) so I set off into the wind, hoping for a tailwind on the way back.
Heading towards Moulton and Pitsford villages was a bit of a struggle as the roads are quite open.
I dropped down the hill past Chapel Brampton and over the old railway line.

I'm not sure if the trains were running today, but they usually do Holiday Specials.
Up the hills to the village then past Althorp House was nice as the wind had eased up.

The gatehouse and main gates to Althorp, of Diana fame.

The view across the Ha-Ha towards the main house. The road around the estate walls is up and down, then up again. Quite fun today with empty roads. Brington Hills are fairly wee known by cyclists around here and I saw sveral others out and about.
I called in on a mate and drank some tea and chatted for a while on the way home then took the direct route straight through the town centre to get home. The last 6 miles were in the rain but it wasn't as heavy as I'd expected.
25 miles in all, but felt like more due to the wind.
Back home for a nice Sunday dinner with all the trimmings :hungry:

First trip out of 2014 for the road bike today ^_^, so it was up early(ish) to get across Carlisle before everyone else woke up and head out along the Solway, and then return across country. The ride out was great but there was decent headwind on the return leg to make progress entertaining if not a little slow,

Today's photo was taken at the ½ way stop point which is somewhere around the n of Anthorn on the map below

GPS tells me it was 46 miles/1550ft
