Thrilled to see this hog was in our garden this morning. If my knowledge of hog anatomy is correct, this is a big healthy lad!

It's lovely to watch the hogs @Poacher and that does look a decent sized one.

Spotted a swan's nest on our couple of lap's walk around Wickstead park earlier today

Also spotted quite few brimstone butterflies around .

Had a 10 second fly bypass on my ride this morning by a tawny owl, it was amazing just caught sight of it as it flying along side me within 10 ft then glided straight across in front of me and over the hedge to carry on looking for breakfast.... It was magical and wish I had a helmet camera

was it silent? the owls that have flown near me were silent. no air sounds no flapping sounds

Yes totally silent I think I must have spooked it and it was making its escape

Blue Jay?
Some action from the early hours of this morning. Lactating vixen heard something moving around in her territory and went to investigate.

It was a tabby cat, which cleared the pond with plenty to spare.

Vixen pursued it with a <cliché alert!> blood-curdling snarl.

Action picked up by other camera showed the vixen thwarted by colliding with a chair under which the cat had escaped,

then doubling back to chase it down the side of the house.

Here's hoping the cat had such a scare it won't dare to return. Sorry about the blurred images - I'm "only" recording at 30fps - and the slight discrepancy in timestamp between the two cameras.

wow! quite the drama! amazing sequence!

one of our late cats befriended a young fox when it was still smaller than the cat. they would sit & just look at each other. our cat never showed fear & the fox never showed aggression. it was interesting to watch over the span of a cpl years. there was plenty of other prey for Mr. Fox in our backyard like mice & chipmunks, etc. plus during that time we had 3 large cats, so "backup" was usually nearby. I watched some youtube videos "cat vs fox" & was comforted to see the cat was usually the victor or at the very least always got away. a coyote however, is another story

we kept our cats on a relatively tight lease, no actual lease just behavior modification w/ timing the outdoor activity, combined with my physical presence. the 3 of them were descendants of the Maine Coon breed & were found under a barn floor, likely offspring of feral cats. & I took other safety other precautions like walking into the back woods in the early morning with a bright flashlight & clapping my hands before letting them out, or as I was letting them out. the previous 2 cats had good fortune outside for ~20 years & our last 3, the same for ~16-18 years. but there are no guarantees, that's for sure!
