I thought a stout was a weasel just with a white winter coat

No idea as I didn't have time to stop & check its tail - I initially thought it was a squirrel in the shadows, then it moved into the sunshine and the darker colouring and the lack of bushy tail gave it away as a not squirrel.

A stoat with a white winter coat is in ermine - keeps it's black tail tip. Check out the queen's fancy cloak next time she's dressed up. All those white furry bits with black tails are little stoats.

A weasel is a different mustalid - smaller & without the black tail tip.

The best way I find to identify them is on size

A stoat is like a long squirrel, a weasel is like a long mouse

Not mine but #2 daughter’s. She’s currently cycling/bikepacking the Eastern Divide and Appalachian Trail, Maine to New Orleans, and today she rode past this snake which was not happy and hissed at her. Anyone able to identify it? My Google search suggest it might be a Copperhead. Anyone know for sure.

Update: apparently it’s a Timber Rattlesnake 🙀🙀🙀

Highly venomous and potentially deadly, but also non-aggressive, timid even, giving plenty of warning of its presence.

I had a big one like that in the living room last night too. It was the cat that noticed it. Managed to catch it and put it out the window. Lots of little ones around too. Maybe they're looking for warmth now that we have a nip in the air overnight now.

It was my other half that wanted it morning on .
It's the second one in a couple of days we have had inside .
Like you say must be chilly air driving them in , swmbo will turn the heating off if they keep coming
