What was it that had a nip at the badger?

Got to be brave to take on a badger, they are extremely aggressive when the need arises. Once there was a young woodpigeon in the garden that was obviously unwell and just walked around the lawn. Come the evening it just stood there next to a bush.

Until badger padded past...took one look at the woodpigeon and...whuuuuuuump...massive fountain of pigeon feathers and that was badger's dinner sorted

What was it that had a nip at the badger?

One of the local foxes. I've seen it happen before, and the fox always bites and runs. Badgers have a good turn of speed over short distances, so a quick getaway is important.
Normally, a fox will defer to a badger, but this one likes living dangerously - or maybe it thinks it's a game because it didn't really try to do any damage. It was more of a playful nip.

Ladybird larvae.

We found loads yesterday in the dunes at Blyth. Not yellow like yours but black & red ones. Also adult ladybirds - 11 spot & 7 spot.

Mrs Tenkaykev just came in from the garden saying that she had seen a really unusual caterpillar. I've taken a photo. I'm not sure what it is but it looks unreal! Any ideas?

I've since learned that it is an Elephant Hawkmoth, but I shall now refer to it as Colin
