Yes, Raven

The bill is much heavier than the similar Carrion Crow. The loud croak is what often draws my attention to them
Thanks . I thought it was at first , but then my wife looked it up and discovered that they weren't on the island . I looked on a bird watching sight last night and found that a pair was sighted further South.

I saw this bird at the Needles on the Isle of Wight. The loud bark type croak drew my attention to it. I thought that it sounded like a Raven but wasn't sure as there was nothing to compare it with .
Today I had a chance to listen to a Crow which visits our roof and found that it has a higher pitched call.
So I'm wondering if it was a Raven that I saw ? View attachment 414179

Looks like a raven to me. Keep away from the pointy end.

There has been a change in the types of birds seen around here. Greenfinches seem to have disappeared along with Chaffinches . Rooks are few in numbers whereas Crows are very common, 24 in one tree earlier this year. Kestrel's are pretty rare and Buzzards have declined a bit . There are some Sparrowhawks around which seem to have adopted Peregrine like tactics of soaring high and then plunging down after their prey.
Gulls now patrol around the houses swooping low over the rooftops and trees in numbers.

Playing with the dog in the garden last night, he's soon sniffing around in the bushes as he's found something.

Go to see what has got him agitated to find a dead hare. The body had been picked clean, leaving only the head.

Probably died naturally, but found by a fox.

We have had Aqua singing in the garden all Spring

Or to be a little more accurate, a blackbird. One of its phrases is a perfect copy of "I'm a Barbie girl"

A place I used to work we had 'men at work bird'. I can't remember, it may have been a song thrush, the start of its call sounded exactly like the start of Down Under.
