Some pics from my commute.

The guys were out mowing the grass verge and I wondered why they'd left bits uncut in odd places.

Then I looked closer and saw why

Beautiful bee orchids. There were several and it's good to see they're cutting the grass sensitively.

Then further along (between Quy and Lode) the new cycle path has become quite colourful!

I spent half an hour freeing a male mallard from a fruit net in our garden today. It may have been there for a couple of days or more, as we were overseas. It was very weak, and didn't resist at all, but it seemed undamaged despite tying itself in absolute knots. I carried it across to the pond across the road, and it fluttered and flapped its way to safety on it, looking OK. I had worried that it would die from shock when I handled it, or rip me to pieces with its bill, but apart from me getting covered in its poo, neither of us were much damaged by the experience, I hope.

Absolutely love these birds, since first seeing them at work. Quite a few here on holibobs in Scotland, never get tired of watching them...
just sitting in the house waiting for the rain to clear watching the goings on in the pond, and I see this little one starring back in at me - I wonder if she is posting pictures of me on some frogy internet social media site?

I'm back in Perth WA for a few weeks. In the last few days a group of red-tailed black cockatoos have gathered in a local tree to enjoy the remains of the seed pods. They are one of my favourite Aussie birds and I managed to get some decent photos. The one on the left is a female, the right-hand one is a male sitting on a lamppost surveying the scene.

We have been watching a pair of robins going back and forth to a metal chicken we have hanging on the garage wall for a few days .

Then the last couple of days nothing at all no robin's in the garden flitting about .

So stuck my phone over the hole and there is a nest and 3 eggs but no robin's

This would have been our first baby birds in 13 years.

Well after a few days we have noticed that the same pr of Robins are still visiting the abandoned nest on a regular basis so not sure what's going on
what are they ? Oystercatches ? I love the noise they make.
Yes, that’s the one. At work they mostly just walk round in circles shouting at each other, quite amusing to watch.
