Walking around a local nature reserve yesterday afternoon i spied what i thought was a fox cub as it dived for cover as we approached , upon reaching where i thought he was it revealed a well worn path in the long wet grass , as we stood there looking we both noticed about a foot away from the main path the grass was moving so we both bent down and parted the long grass and there it lay a tiny fox cub shaking with fear , so we both looked and walked away amazed at our find both forget to get a picture as we didn't want to linger too long or scare it anymore .

A bit further round we saw a pr of adult Canadian geese guiding a quantity of gosling's along , couldn't tell you how many as they were being well shielded again no pictures .

Then a bit further on a swan has made herself a nice big nest on one side of the main footpath but luckily a little stream and a hedgerow protect her human intervention no sign of any young but we look every time as we walk past

Seeing this monster in my pond yesterday took me by surprize !
I have seen Four Spotted Chasers emerge from our ponds before but I've seen one of these . I will keep my eye on the pond to see if any pop out .
I haven't seen any Damselfly empties yet,

although I have seen one flying around the pond.
The snail was being cheeky climbing along it's back. They both sank to the bottom of the pond when my wife tried to remove it .

There's been a nest in one of my boxes for over a week, but I wasn't sure what bird it was.
I finally moved a trail camera into the bush that hides the box, and got a few clips of the bird.
The clips are a bit wonky and out of focus because of the difficulty of placing the camera where leaves don't obscure the box opening, but it's clearly a robin.
Four eggs so far.

I have been into visit the pond today. There are some Red Damselflies laying eggs and there are some males busy fighting with one another. They seem very aggressive towards one another and there are a couple of dead ones floating on the pond .
I spotted 5 large Dragonfly Larvae climbing on to the Bog bean stalks which are still submerged. I'm not sure if they are preparing to emerge soon. They move very slowly and don't appear to be interested in the tadpoles which happily sit on them .
I will keep an eye on the pond to see if any climb out .

I spotted 4 hawks yesterday , possibly Sparrowhawks . They were all together flying way up in the sky milling around as if in a dog fight. It was fun to watch their aerial manoeuvres . They split into pairs and continued for a while before separating into pairs and flying off into different directions .

Much more typical display behaviour of buzzards round your way. Buzzards being our heavy weight hawk. I too love this aerial display. Makes humans seem pretty insignificant.

Sparrowhawks are small falcons who tend to hug the tree line and are more solitary.

You should go down to the levels and Priddy Pools for some dragon watching. I have seen Merlins hawking for dragonfly and once saw a red booted falcon doing the same.

In pond news ! I was searching for the Dragonfly Larvae yesterday and I think I may have seen 6 although they are hard to spot . I'm not sure but I think I may have noticed that one of the larvae seems to have light green spots appearing along the segments of his body. I could be mistaken! It could be a different larvae from the one in the picture .
I find it fascinating when they do emerge and go through the process of changing .
no dragon flies here just yet, it is usually end of june for us. Our pond is just full of tadpoles, never seen as many, there must be many many 1000s, may be even 10s of.
None have emerged yet , they are just below the surface. We haven't had that many Damselflies this year , perhaps it is too early !
