Today is a reminder that springs not far away.
I'm not very good with winter, I tend to hibernate. it's nice and sunny albeit cold but in an attempt to absorb some rays while at work I've sat myself down in a sheltered spot overlooking fen fields. Its quiet here....ooh. I can hear a skylark.
No big deal but its a reminder of nicer things to come and is very welcome as I fight the deaded virus.
One buzzard too, wheeling slowly around high above.

Inevitably on the Forty Foot drain, flanked either side by fenland field that stretch into the distance....a marsh harrier, male I assume, grey quite visible on his upper wings, lazily flapped across my path(I was in my car). Often see what I assume are females in my area, a rich brown in colour but not so many males.
One wood pigeon, flying alongside my car for a good few hundred metres....50mph, it stayed with me .
Buzzard, a small one, perched in a small tree. Often see them out here too.

It's that time of year again - a pair of Mallard checking out my totally unsuitable garden pond.
Last time, they hung about for a couple of weeks before agreeing with my opinion and seeking somewhere more amenable to raising young.

After months of cycling in the hills with barely any wildlife to see (maybe a few Red Grouse and Crows) there were signs of life last weekend

GS Woodpecker drumming away. Then a couple of Grey Wagtails "tic ticking" near the fast-flowing upland streams. Finally a bunch of noisy Rooks starting their communal nest building.
