First time ever for me....a deer in the Peak District

I've done thousands of miles down little country lanes and never seen one. So I was surprised when a roe deer hind shot across the road near Uppermill this morning

Yeah, great, first time you see one and you shoot it?? :okay:

I saw a stoat yesterday, a bunny rabbit dashed across my path and then the stoat, but the stoat turned back as I was about to run it over, I presume it was after the bunny. :surrender:

The deer ran across the little road about 10m in front of me while I was going downhill at about 20mph. I was fortunate, easy to see how folk get knocked off by big, startled animals

We can now add red deer to the list of wildlife in our area. I also had a grey butcher bird land within feet of me whilst I was gardening yesterday. And we have a new noise, a kind of booming that starts at dawn and ends at dusk (very dark dusk at that)... I have yet to ID it. The jack hare was out again this morning, he lives locally and we see him (or should I say it) quite often. Yesterday a kangaroo was lying down sunbathing in the septic tank field alongside the house - cheeky thing. and the male splendid fairy wren has started displaying right alongside the sun room windows, so my camera and longest lens are at hand today. Yesterday all I could do was watch him because I knew if I moved... And we have a white faced heron which has moved in to the area. It has the most awful call, worse that the sulphur crested cockatoos which is saying something! There are also a few new birds which I need to identify as well...

Then there are the butterflies which are starting to arrive. So far nothing really interesting though, a couple of red admirals (I am pretty sure that is what they were) and a painted lady or two... but I think it could have been an Australian Painted Lady (Vanessa kershawi) not the Painted lady (Vanessa cardui) because it took me a few moments to recognise it and it seemed different to what I was expecting, but not hugely so. I will have to stalk them when there are more around in the summer and get some photos.

We found this mute swan on our walk this morning.

It looked quite happy with no obvious sign of injury.
