@gtmet interesting tower, almost looks like an earlier defensive structure converted into a church.

I have often looked at country church towers and thought it possible that they were dual purpose, but it is rarely mentioned in descriptions, possibly because using the only solid building in a village as a refuge is too obvious to mention. The Borders may have been particularly turbulent, but England had unquiet times until well after the Civil War, so pele towers may be more general than we think.

In this particular case the Heritage England description implies that the upper stage and roof are unfinished work.

A squat, simple building, smoother finished inside than out, with the arcading along the north wall hinting at vanished past glories.

Partial collapse of spire and/or tower at some point in it's history?

Eglise Saint-Gilles in Malestroit. Construction of the church started in 1144, probably on a former sacred site and was largely completed by the end of the 12th century. Translating (probably badly from French Wikipedia) it appears that more work was undertaken in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The église de Saint-Cyr et de Sainte-Julitte in the centre of Molac. The church was founded in the 17th century.

I hope to be back in Molac again fairly soon and I’ll try and get some photos of the other side of the church.

How interesting there is such a thread of bikes in front of Churches - a year or two ago in a bid to learn Edinburgh I made a list of all the churches (some 250+) and I occasionly select half a dozen at random then cycle to them (I'm not remotely religious but I do like churches) anyway, with out boring everyone with the 200 I have done so far, how about this for the smallest I have come across -

and a one from yesterday, not that I was in pursuit of churches yesterday, but I had not been able to find this one last time I was in town

I love the idea of these little places of worship, I bet they're a whole lot more friendly than the giant town centre cathedrals
