No idea I'm afraid, they're just something I picked up on a few years ago as being different from the square towers on virtually all other churches. It seems to be a mostly East Anglian thing - especially Norfolk with the majority. A very unremarkable methodists chapel in Levens, Cumbria. It caught my attention as the Minister is the Rev Dainty-Share, possibly the most frugal and understated Methodist name I could imagine!
