Yodel - the laughing stock of couriers…..

We seldom get Yodel round here

I tend to notice because they were - a long time ago - the delivery part of Littlewoods Home Shopping - where I worked

I did work on their payroll system at one point but that project was binned when they sold that bit of the company to an American company
who replaced all the vans and updated the warehouses but totally screwed up the deliveries
so Littlewoods bought it back - with new vans and warehouse equipment - for half of what they got it for

so then - after I left - they renamed it Yodel and started doing none Littlewoods work

so - basically Yodel are wonderful and a great company that everyone should use

Oh - hang on - the umbrella company have sold my pension to someone else so they don;t pay it any more

as you were - they are carp - but probably the same as most of the others

Imagine if there was a method of shoping whereby you went to the shop, had a good look at what you were purchasing, tried on shoes / clothes, then went to the till to pay thus leaving with your goods there and then.

This method cuts out the risk of lost damaged parcels, goods not as described, items not fitting etc.

Wonder if we will ever see this system in operation.

I spent the first 20 years of my working life working on a computer system to make buying from home easier

in the 1980s!

in those days it was called the Catalogue - which one you had varied - but everyone knew someone with a catalogue

Littlewoods had some "agents" that earned so much from their discount that they had to be reported to the Inland Revenue every year

One person found out the "secret" code which allowed you to order a kettle and it looked to the computer system like a free gift from a First Order

he ordered a few thousand over a year or so!
turned out he ran a market stall

There was a panic and I was called into an urgent meeting with high ranking people to work out how to fix it
I commented that we just had to block any items code starting ZZ in telephoned orders and if I went back I could have it done and tested in 10 minutes

the meeting went on for another hour while "important people" spoke about how important and terrible it all was
while I sat there knowing the solution and not fixing it

anyway - what was the topic????

I shouldn't think so. Hard to get things that way without actually talking to a person, and SO inconvenient, having to leave the house. You might miss a delivery of something while you are out!

If only. We want to change the hob in our kitchen. Our nearest big supplier is Currys who have 160 various types and sizes on their website. However the most I have seen one of their shops is 8.

I have an odd friend who does that kind of thing. She actually catches buses from Hebden Bridge to Halifax or Keighley to go shopping!

It must be 20+ years since I had to do something as horrible as that!

I walk to my local Aldi or Lidl for essentials, but everything else is ordered online, which is just the way that I like it!

Presumably also paying with “coins of the realm”?

Currys, B and Q, Half odds and some others seem determined to destroy the advantage their stores have by listing loads of items on their websites that are not in their stores.

I bought our last hob by going to the big kitchen appliance store on a farm two villages west. Not sure they show stock on their website, but there's plenty of good models there.

We have a good EVRI delivery guy, same in our last place too. They both made the extra effort at times and became a part of the community. We didn't get much delivered by them but he still was friendly to us even if we bumped into him in another street, he knew we were from the street over. A good meemeory for people. The current one is pretty much similar. Can't fault them at all.

Amazon is a bit sketchy at times. We get about six or so different ones. Some delivery to our sheltered and out of sight porch, others deliver to a greenhouse in the back garden even when we are in and there is the more obvious porch for it. In fact we have had amazon left by the door to our garage which has no shelter if it rained. They are a bit funny too. Two of them started to text me half an hour or so beforee gettting there telling use we must lock our dog away. A dog that has never been threatening but I guess they must be afraid of dogs . We never let the dogs get to any delivery guy so there was no need to take that attitude, but hey doesn't bother me it just seems overkil the way they are. Other amazon deliveries are actually private contractors who are nice and friendly. A couple are really good and they make a fuss of the dog if she ever escapes when we take the package personally. One takes a treat out of his pocket and our dog knows that and him because of that. She does not bark quite so much but is more excited when it is him.

Yodel never used to be a problem where we used to live. Here they don't deliver so I guess no issue neither. Overall though we do not have that much of an issue. i guess since we are a village there seems to be a better delivery service.

I used to know posties who used to tell me that parcelforce took their rejects or people who could not get the clearance to be a postie. Or who got sacked for negligence. There is an area not far from where we lived back then where parcelforce packages went missing. This was many years ago before the rise of evri and the like. It was PArcelforce, UPS, fedex back then. anyway, The local depot used to get calls about mmissing parcels. If there were a fair few the manager used to get in his car and drive to the layby in that area where both posties and parcelforce drivers take their breaks. He knew they would be stuffed in the bin there!!! It was a know thing among the posties and parceforce in that patch. Other tricks were parcelforce would look at the parcels and if they saw one to certain out of the way places theey used to take it out of their pile and stash it in thee Royal Mail pile for the area. That way they could finish their delivery round sooner.

That's a standard message, we've had that one & we don't even have a dog to lock away
