Yes, it's either a wasp's nest, or a discarded 1970s lampshade from "The Borrowers " house. Or a spider.

I've just seen a wasp go into the little lampshade thing, if it's a solitary wasp I'll leave it.

... carefully! I did once and wasn't - the little buggers who survived were very cross - and the ones who came back from foraging and found themselves homeless were even more angry!

Although it could be a Polistes (solitary) it certainly looks to me like a queens nest af a Vespula (certainly not solitary). Wasps perform a vital role in nature, killing pests and bugs and the like! I dread them however and would kill that pesky queen until she was dead dead dead

I hate the idea of killing the Queen (if she is one) as the wasps are a huge help I'm keeping pests down in our garden. We're going to snoosh the nest and hope the wasp moves on.
