Would you say the Peugeot 206cc is a girls car

Hi. At the moment I drive a 2.5 ton oil burning diesel. Over the years it served me well and was suited well to my life style. Towing a caravan and used for lugging large loads around ,it was a God send but now I'm a single guy its now virtually redundant in its usefulness to me. The caravan has long gone as well as the load lugging. I still like the car and feel its a very safe and stylish looking motor, but recently I think a mid life crisis has set in and my head has been turned towards wanting to own a convertible. Money is always somewhat tight ,so the more expensive convertibles is out of the question really. A car that has caught my eye of late is the Peugeot 206 cc convertible. Cheap as chips second hand and they all seem to be well looked after with ridiculously low mileage going for peanuts. The reviews are also quite positive about them , and with all these positive points I'm really tempted. The thought of driving along the coast line on a summers day with the hood down and the wind blowing over my wig sounds just great to me,, But will I look a complete plonker??
I'm nearing nearly 50 now and feel I'm maybe to old to look respectable in such a car. There also commonly viewed as a hair dressers car or a girls car sadly.None the less though I still like the look of them and dare I say it the ford ka convertible too..As there,s only me to now to transport around the cramped space they offer would not be a problem.
I've spotted a very nice 206 cc with low mileage for under £1000 and feel somewhat excited about grabbing a bargain, but the image is putting me off lol. Where I live is set in stunning scenery and its the sort of place where you would want to drop the roof on a decent day. Ahhh decisions decisions :-) :-)

Something from the 1970s might suit you better

You are right about there being some well looked after cars for little money.

In that respect, the convertible is 'cheaper' than a hatchback.

The Peugeot 206 is basically a sound enough car.

Might be worth having a go before you buy.

There will be some scuttle shake - body flex - with the hood down, and inevitably rattles.

The car is relatively heavy, so may not feel very perky, depending on the engine size.

No doubt the hood could be expensive to fix, but any £1,000 car could cost more than it's worth to repair if something major failed.

They're a crap car, regardless of the gender of the owner. They have no rain gutters, so open the door in the rain and a sheet of water rolls off the roof into your lap.
Thank you Mr Happy.

I don't know that car, but I just googled and it looks sweet. I'm sure they're cheap as chips because they're front cars, and they're not front cars when they're not new, so value drops off a cliff. But hey, you're only young once. Were. Whatever.

No, I'd say, if that's what you fancy, then go for it. With caution. Boy racers 'n that. But there will be some that will have been owned & driven by people like you. Proceed with caution. As with any used car, the 'location, location, location' is 'service history, service history, service history,' but I personally wouldn't write it off out of hand.

Anyway, how often does it rain?

We’ve had two. I wouldn’t buy another. For work I drove Peugeots, not a 208, for 20+ years, they are a good reliable workhorse but that’s all. When I retired in March ‘17 I spent a couple of months looking for a smallish car. When I looked at the 208 my overall impression was it’s very, very dated and needs a complete makeover. Very expensive in its class.

May ‘17 I bought my son a 57 plate KA with 40,000 on the clock. Very impressed with it. If I was looking for a new vehicle of that size it would get very serious consideration.

As for yourself. £1000 for a car? You won’t get much at all. I’d stick to your current car. You know it’s history

“Girls or hairdressers” car? Not funny and a wholey different conversation.

What about looking for a Fiat 500 Sport - they're not that cheap but they’re economical on petrol have free road tax and tend to hold their value and this is the ‘quite quick’ model.

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
They're very small inside - drove one once and wasn't impressed. But then I drove a Saab convertible normally in lime yellow like below. You'd get a post-2003 one of those for £1k (just) - no rain issues, spacious, quick enough. Far, far better.

The ones I've seen driven, more often than not, involve a 20-30 something female driver. So, I can understand why as a 50 something male you would be concerned about how you'll be perceived driving one.
