I find the creeping Americanisation of British English very annoying. Schools now appear to have proms not dances, and it seems compulsory to arrive at said event in the tackiest way possible, usually a stretch limousine. Why?!

Police speak, outwith the Police. Even while I was on the payroll, I disliked all the "I was proceeding on foot in a westerly direction along main street when......" bollox (although it was never quite as bad as that, and the stereotypical "you're nicked" stuff!).

My mate who retired from the Police a few years ago (but can't let go) still comes out with stuff like "what is your locus?" instead of asking me where I am! He also uses the 24 hour clock, as in it is now 1850 hours. It's ten tae seven ya plonk!
